Has anyone know London Crown apart.?

by dinushka

Hi!

Has anyone ever stayed at the London Crown apart. if it so, how was is it?

What about location?

Thanks

RE: Has anyone know London Crown apart.?

by Siddha3th

I lived in London Crown for over 4 years before it got turned into a hotel apartment complex, so yeah, I know a little bit about it ;)

There are actually 2 London Crown's, both in Bur Dubai. LC1 is the larger and better maintained of the 2. There's a decent pool and a really sorry excuse for a gym! But there is a pretty nice sauna in here. The rooms are nice and spacious, and ideally, you should get yourself an apartment with a large balcony overlooking the surroundings. Location-wise, both are good choices, smack dab in the middle of the heart of the city. Just a word of caution though, the area gets positively infested with prostitutes at night. Be a little aware, and try not to walk back to your apartment too late at night.

Ciao,
Siddharth :)

RE: Has anyone know London Crown apart.?

by JessH

I agree with Siddarth.

The London Crown in Bur Dubai is in a central location, but in the late afternoons and evenings a woman by herself cannot walk on the street without being asked to "get in the car & make friendship"... "how much"... etc.

I live nearby (Golden Sands area) and cannot even stand by myself to wait for a taxi... it's horrible. But then again, many parts of the city are becoming a "red-light district".... it's difficult to avoid it anywhere nowadays.

Have a great stay (nonetheless!)

RE: RE: Has anyone know London Crown apart.?

Guess what, Jess - I'm shifting apartments, AGAIN! LOL. I'm probably moving into Golden Sands 6, come the 1st of Sep, right back next to London Crown 1. The more things change.......

RE: RE: Has anyone know London Crown apart.?

Cool!

Let's meet in Bur Juman for Gloria Jean's Iced Cappuccino, eh?
Or maybe for some sushi at Yo!Sushi? (do you like Sushi?)

And of course, there's always good-old-rock bottom's ;-)

RE: RE: Has anyone know London Crown apart.?

by Siddha3th

K, it's a deal :)

I'll hit you up one of these days. Iced Tea's good. Sushi's great. Bullfrog, even better. LOL

Ciao!

Budget hotel near Burj Dubai

by azizshaikh09

Dear Vt,
Kindly advise clean but in budget place for stay, near Burj Dubai. I have a meeting planned in London Crown Apartments in March.
Thanks

Re: Budget hotel near Burj Dubai

by Durfun

Hi, Do you mean Bur Dubai (Old Town) OR Burj Dubai = Burj Khalifa??

Bur means Old, Burj means Tower!

If near the tower, Ibis is going at very low rates. It's very basic, but does the job!

Re: Budget hotel near Burj Dubai

by azizshaikh09

Its Burj Khalifa on Baniyas Road

Re: Budget hotel near Burj Dubai

by Durfun

Hi, Don't know where you're getting your info from, because your meeting is planned here: http://www.londoncrown.ae/hotels.htm

They are located in Bur Dubai, near Burjuman Centre or Khalid bin Al Waleed metro!

Burj Khalifa is 20 kms from there!

Hence you need a place near Burjuman! Check out Savoy Crest Suites or Savoy Standard rooms. Imperial is also nearby & cheap. Also there is an Ibis not too far away.

Re: Budget hotel near Burj Dubai

by JessH

Hi from Dubai :-)

Burj Khalifa is certainly not located on Baniyas Road.
It's located on Sheikh Zayed Road.

London Crown Apartments are located in Bur Dubai, the old part of the city.
As the other VT members have said, this means it's around Khalid bin Al Waleed Street (better known as "Bank Street"). There are a couple of affordable hotels in the area, but an even cheaper option would be one of the numerous hotel apartments in the area.

Re: Budget hotel near Burj Dubai

by azizshaikh09

Apologize for the trouble. Meeting is planned not in London Crown apartments but at "Al Thuraya Tower 1, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai Internet City, Behind CNN Building".

Re: Budget hotel near Burj Dubai

by JessH

Ah, well, this is a whole different part of town.

The closest hotel (2 min walking distance) would be the MEDIA ONE Hotel.
www.mediaonehotel.com/

Then there's the RADISSON BLU HOTEL Media City.

There is also a HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS in nearby Internet City.

Another option is the TULIP INN.

Hope this helps,
Jess

HOTELS

by duaa

Is their a good but economical hotel in dubai if im travelling with my three year old son?

RE: HOTELS

by JessH

Greetings from Dubai :-)

When exactly are you planning to come to Dubai?
This has a large impact on hotel availabilities and prices.

RE: HOTELS

by colin_bramso

Hi, welcome to VT.
The answer depends what you mean by 'economical' - how much are you prepared to pay?

RE: RE: HOTELS

by 37SingleMaleInDubai1

Yes the Golden question how much you want to spend on hotel per night. As usual money talks and rest walk :-)

RE: RE: HOTELS

by duaa

well it will be pretty soon somewhere between the 18th & 20th of this month. I knw the xbition is gonna be on these dates, so wat if i think of renting an apartment cause im gonna be their for the next three months

RE: RE: HOTELS

by JessH

Duaa,

you can't rent a "normal" apartment unless you have a residence visa.

There are, however, furnished hotel apartments.
Here are some recommendations:

In Bur Dubai there are numerous serviced apartment blocks that offer short-long term accommodation.

RE: RE: HOTELS

Dee, I would check the day care centre issue before you decide to travel. As I understand it the kids' nurseries, day care centres etc are pretty well booked way in advance with long waiting lists. Maybe the others will know the details...

Travel Tips for Dubai

Gold Souk.... Glitter Glitter all around ;-)

by najamrulz

Gold Souk with its narrow streets is Dubai's most famous market. It is located in Deira district near Dubai Creek. Gold prices here are among the lowest in the world. There is much variety of gold here that I have seen people getting confused about what to buy and what to leave. Here you would find many shops lined with bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings in 18, 21 and 22 carat normal and white gold. You can also buy 24 carat bars in any form and weight. Prices over here are very reasonable. Mostly they determine the price here by weight instead of design or craftsmanship. But here you have to bargain a lot. Simply suggest the price which you feel is justified. If they agree then buy gold otherwise move to next shop.

Emirates Express

by zuyao

A reasonably good bus service is available between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The bus departs from Abu Dhabi Municipality Bus Station to Al-Ghubaiba Bus Station in Bur Dubai, just near the Creek. The fare is Dh15. The frequency of the service is about every 40 mins. The journey takes 2 hours.

Filipino food

by Penelope4 about Golden Fork Restaurant (L.L.C.)

There are many Filipinos who work in Dubai and consequently to meet the demand for Filipino foods, some Filipino grocery stores and restaurants have been established. I believe the widest chain of Filipino restaurants these days is the Golden Fork Restaurant.

Filipinos like to eat out in the Philippines and are used to spending some good quality time in the restaurants. So if you are in a hurry, you have to advise the waiters/waitresses that you do not have much time and would like to be served and pay as immediate as possible.

Menu offers authentic Filipino foods. And you'll be given a towelette to clean your hands before eating and another one after eating. They will also serve you bread (on the house - I believe) as you wait for your food. Service charge is included in the bill. Pancit Bihon and fresh avocado juice. Why I find it so good? Well, they're some of my favourites back home.
