a 15 H layover in Dubai - ramadan

by 1W1V

Hi,

I am flying to singapore next week and have a long layover in Dubai. I am given a hotel room but I am not going to stay all the time in the hotel.

If possible I will be going to shopping mall but I am wondering about the business hours during ramadan.

Also are the food court closed till iftar or are they (at least some of them) are open during daytime.

Thx a lot

L

Shopping malls will remain open for business through the Ramadan period.

Food courts and restaurants may be difficult in the malls and public areas. The restaurants in the hotels will continue to serve in order to accommodate non-Muslim guests.

Hello from Dubai,

yep, as the above post says, malls and shops are open but generally it's very quiet during the day because the food courts and all cafes / restaurants in the malls are CLOSED until after Iftar.

I could, however, recommend that you visit a Mall that has a hotel attached to it - for example: Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre or the Bur Juman Mall. Hotels always keep at least 1 restaurant open during the day (covered with curtains so nobody can look inside).

Just to expand on those answers, there are takeaway food outlets open but the food can't be eaten in public during daylight hours.

There will be some coffee shops etc open if you know where to find them. As Jess said, they curtain themselves off from public view. For example, one that I use, Dome at Madinat Jumeirah, says they will be open as usual during Ramadan.

Well, the best plan could be that you may take your lunch in the hotel and moving out to any Mall at 5:00 P.M. Iftar (Sun Set) would be about 6:50 P.M. and that time the food courts start serving food.
Good luck.

Travel Tips for Dubai

Christmas in Dubai

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

I traveled to the Arab Emirates on the eve of Christmas. So unusual was for me to watch a Christmas-tree and Santa Claus in Medinat Souk in Dubai! It was hot outside like in summer and it was very difficult to imagine that there was a lot of snow somewhere four thousand kilometers to the north in Moscow…
Nevertheless Christmas-tree toys and ornaments looked very impressive there and reminded me that in a few weeks we would celebrate this holiday with our Ded Moroz (Santa Claus) in snowy Russia.

Deira City Centre Mall

by sue_stone about Deira City Centre

The Deira City Centre Mall is located close to the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club in Deira. It was the closest mall to our hotel, and we visited there on our last afternoon in Dubai.

Although a large complex, it has a more local feel to it, with more affordable shopping, and more shops with a local flavour. There were still plenty of the usual chain shops we are used to in the UK, along with Debenhams department store.

There is a cinema and also a children's entertainment centre called Magic Planet, along with a good range of restaurants, cafes and fast food outlets.

Taxi queues can be a big problem at shopping malls, and I had read that the queues were particularly bad at Deira City Centre....and that was our experience too. Although there was a constant flow of taxi's arriving, we still had to queue for over 1 hour!

Mall opening hours:
Sat to Tue: 10am - 10pm
Wed to Fri: 10am - 12am

Long Night at The Long's

by Rinjani about The Long's Bar

Great place to drink after work. As it’s name, The Long has a long bar with its lay back atmosphere. You will love this place. Long’s Bar also has dance floor and it’s quite full of people in Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Fancy a crowd? Come after nine in the evening. Ladies Night is usually on Wednesday Night. Casual (better put your shoes on :) )
