Tucked away in the alleys of Bastakiya and the renovated heritage of the neighbourhood is the delightful The Orient Guest House.
It's a traditional two storey house built around two central courtyards with a total of 10 rooms.
It's full of character and what is lacks in luxury more than makes up for in character. If you want hi-tech modernism with gym and swimming pool, The Orient is not for you.
Instead you get large, individually decorated en-suite rooms based around Arabian style decor, most with separate sitting area and, in my case, a separate dressing room! They're comfortable with all the mod cons you want, but to be honest not that interested in TV whilst in Dubai! :) Most importantly, the air con is powerful.
The two courtyards provide idyllic spots - one, however, plus the rooftop terrace, is fully exposed to the mid day sun. The courtyard nearest to the office is set out for breakfast and also acts as a pizza cafe at night (pizzas bought in from the nearby Arabian Courtyard Hotel - owner of The Orient).
Breakfast is included in rates - although you order in the night before and is prepared in advance. Advice is to stick to fruit and pastries as cold eggs/mushrooms etc not very appealing.
Unique Quality: Comfortable, full of character and slightly quirky (huge padlocks on your doors rather than any other lock).
Excellent value. Although there are plenty of hotels cheaper and with more facilities, The Orient is targeting guests who are looking for character. And it offers it in bundles.
