take Airport Bus # 402 from the airport to the Al Ghubaiba Bus Station, Cost 2 Dirham, from there you can get the Bus to Abu Dhabi for 15 to 20 Dirhams

Howdy there
you are lucky if you are flyn with Emirates as they do have free bus service from Dubai airport to Abu Dhabi Emirates office at Corniche st.
ask at the Diamond lease office for timetable.
you need to have your airline ticket or boarding pass
enjoy your trip

Travel Tips for Dubai

The Desert

by airasia

The fine beige/ orange sand are a part of you when visiting Dubai! My apartment balcony is filled with it, my bed room has some of it, my toilet has it, my black shoe is never black due to the sand, my black pants are never clean, inside my car is filled with sand – like I am some sand transporter contractor, etc.

What is made known to me, there are 5 kinds of desert/dunes/sand in UAE. And all 5 are different in colour.

For begineer, take the oppurnity to play in the desert and feel the fine sand & enviroment. The best time to go there is during winter (October-January).

Another thing relating to the fine sands are the 'Sand storm' which swirl once in a while during or towards summer due to occassional strong winds . Its troublesome & health treating for some. So better watch out the 'sand man' might just appear somewhere ; ))

It gets cold at night in the desert

by Quero

If you are travelling to Dubai in winter, take a light jacket or sweater for evenings, especially if you may eat outdoors (e.g. at the Yacht Club or the Aviation Club).

Also, once the sun sets in the desert, it can get downright teeth-chattering nippy.

SSSSSSMOOOKING!

by Laerke about Karama shopping complex

Itýs cheap and there s lots of souvenirs and copy stuff - but watch out for the quality!
However, it is probably the best spot to buy sishas (water pipe/ hookah) - go for the cristal base ones if you re planning to use it.
Go for the longlasting coal and the two apple tobacco. It is best not to use different tobacco flavour for the same pipe - local advice. Make sure the plastic mouth pieces fit the pipe. Sishas in Karama.
Nuts and spices at Spice Souk or Airport.
Cheap alcohol from the airport!
Electronics at Al nasr square - remember to bargain hard. 140 dhs with tobacco and coal with a lot of bargaining.

Hard Rock Cafe

by najamrulz

Hard Rock cafe was opened in Dubai on December 13, 1997. They offer great deals in starters, salads, sandwiches, burgers, steaks, desserts, bar and HRC specialties. The restaurant opens daily at 12 p.m. Their staff is friendly and food is delicious as per HRC traditions. A live rock band performs six nights a week. Fridays are dedicated to children with lots of attractions for kids. Their is so specific dress codes but you are expected to wear reasonable dress.

Taxis are the way to go...

by JessH

> Taxis are relatively cheap (base charge Dhs 3.50 and then Dhs 1.60 per km) If the metre is broken, your trip is free.
> Base charge from the airport is a ridiculous Dhs 25.- What a way to rip you off as soon as you step into the country.
> If you have any complaints or forgot something in the car, call the company's number on the rear doors & report the cab number.
> Many taxi drivers have poor English, so if you are not sure if the driver has understood you, don't get in! You could end-up having to pay a big bill for a trip to a wrong place.
> It's normal to round-up the fare. If you were happy with the driver please tip generously - these guys work 12-hour shifts & earn peanuts, so every extra 5 or 10 Dhs really help.
Due to this, unfortunately many drivers speed like lunatics just to squeeze as many passengers into a day as possible. To slow them down say "Shwaye Shwaye!" (slower / patience!)
> Unfortunately, Dubai's taxi drivers are overworked and underpaid, and in the city's notorious traffic jams they have become rather "racist" and very often prefer Westerners and don't stop for Arabs or Asians. FULL STORY HERE: http://www.xpress4me.com/news/uae/dubai/20008259.html

TOURIST TIP:
Try to MEMORISE the general area & direction of your hotel. As in most major cities, some drivers will try & take you "the long way around".

DUBAI IS NOT A PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY CITY. Many roads do not have sidewalks & not sufficient road crossings.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try to cycle around Dubai... you can cycle within the city's parks, but trying to cycle on roads is suicide!
There are many different taxi-companies, but they all have a sign & are mostly cream or white with a different coloured roof.
Emirates Taxi: +971 - 4 - 3394455.
Metro Taxi: +971 - 4 - 2673222.
National Taxi: +971 - 4 - 3390002.
UPDATE: There are also LADIES TAXIS for women only. They are cream-coloured with pink roof.
