statues
by uglyscot
It seems that every time i go to Dubai there are strange statues at the side of the road. Once it was camels. This time I saw a horse. My daughter tells me there are often a number of them, and then they vanish.
At Festival City I found a camel and a horse at the entrance. But you usually come across them in unexpected places.
I love the way the calligraphy blends with the shape of the horse in the illustrated one.

Wafi City, introducing new trends in shopping...
by najamrulz
Wafi City is one of the latest, beautiful and exciting luxury shopping malls of Dubai. This shopping mall enjoys Egyptian architecture and the pyramid style. Main building and enterance is also designed in pyramid style. So it never look like typical enterance of shopping mall.
It is located on way to the Al Garhoud Bridge in Bur Dubai . This mall has four spacious floors with world's leading brands having their presence. Information desk is located at main enterance. I would suggest you to get map and guide book from there. Otherwise it might be difficult for you to locate the desired outlets.
Wafi City was opened in 1991 but expension work is still in progress because of its huge beautiful building. Outlets open daily from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m. On Fridays timings are from 4:30 p.m. till 10 p.m.
Wafi City would also be having a five star hotel in near future and more outlets would also be opened. In my opinion, Wafi City is Dubai's most beautiful shopping mall. Its interior is simply awesome. The most beautiful are its color painted glass walls and beautiful glass work on roof. The shopping mall has different parts which make it really big in size. Wafi City includes Shopping Mall with more than 255 outlets, Wafi Residence luxury appartments, Planet Hollywood, Cleopatra's Spa for beauty and health treatments, Pharaohs' club and gym, The Planetarium night club, Ginseng Asian Bar, Seville's Spanish Tapas Bar, Food Court and Pyramids.
Pyramids houses cafes and restaurants. These are Sphinx restaurant and club, Carter's bar and restaurant, Ramesses Cafe coffee shop, Thai Chi restaurants, Asha's Indian restaurant and Medzo Mediterranean restaurant.
This shopping centre is not very much crowded like City Centre and others. Not every one can afford shopping here because of its high standard. Food is also quite expensive. So most of their customers are from Elite class.
Damas, Mont Blac, Piaget, Rivoli, Paris Gallery, Giordano, Versace, Daniel Hechter, Trussadri jeans, Rossini and Swatch few of world's famous brands with their outlets in Wafi City. Many coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, ice cream parlors and food outlets are also there offering delicious meals of your choice. Prices are fixed every where so there is no game of bargaining here. Keep in mind that Wafi City is Luxury shopping mall with Elite class as target market so prices would be higher here.
LIFE'S JUST ONE BIG CONCERT
by Siddha3th about HERE, THERE, EVERYWHERE...
When it comes to big open air concerts, Dubai's yet to hit the right groove. But it's getting there. On the flip side of the coin, there's the washed up yesteryear diva who'll gladly drop in, keeping the illusion of his/her flailing career alive with one last performance - (take a bow, Gloria Gaynor, Bryan Ferry, and, umm.. Sister Sledge).
Happily, we've had some real legends grace our shores too - Roger Waters & Mark Knoppfler have both held legendary concerts. Indie favourites like Lloyd Cole have started dropping in regularly as well, playing to the intimate club faithful.
But what's a city without it's own music festival, right? Cue, the Gig on the Green & The Desert Rock Festival, both boasting the international names (Suede, Fun Lovin' Criminals, The Darkness, Sepultura) and homegrown talent (Juliana Down, Nervecell) required to kickstart any hopes of a scene. Next step: A venue that can actually pack in more than 10,000. Next stop: Our own Big Day Out. Inshallah.
