I stayed in the Dubai Intercontinental for 3 nights early August 2006. The hotel is very good in all respects. Rooms, though not extremely spacious, are tastefully furbished and clean. The same is valid for the bathrooms. The airconditioning does a good job without much noise. All rooms have their own balcony with a table and two chairs, and enjoy a creek view, though the views may be partially obstructed from the lowest two floors. The hotel's higher floors are for registered members of Intercontinental or IC Hotels. The hotel is situated in the city center next to Dubai´s town hall, at the border of the Creek. The main souks are within walking distance, though I recommend to take a taxi in summer time (even at night), as it is simply too hot to walk any distance more than 20 meters. The hotel has a mid-size swimming pool, where drinks and food are served to the beds. Cold water is suplied to the pool in summer, so the water temperature does not get above 30 degrees Celsius. Part of the hotel is a shopping center with about 20 shops, where they sell mainly jewelry, clothes, shoes and souvenirs. Besides, there is a good selection of restaurants (7 or 8 in total). My wife and I preferred the Palm Grill, a top class steakhouse with live background music every night (see separate review). Finally, there are two night clubs. Another good thing of the Intercontinental is that you don't hear any mosques early in the morning, so you can sleep until late if you want. The hotel rooms are silent in general: you don't hear any noise from other guests and other rooms except for the flushing toilet of the bathroom above yours (not annoying). The top floor restaurant is open for breakfast, but check if it is included in your rate. Otherwise you're supposed to the ground floor restaurant or will be charged an extra US$ 25 per person per day.
The Intercontinental is exactly what you should expect of a top class business hotel. I really haven't found anyting negative, and would also recommend it for lesure because of the fine swimming pool, the perfect restaurants and top location!
