Mid-range hotel
by Quero about Ramada Dubai
This is a fairly typical four-star chain hotel. The staff work at a leisurely pace, so expect that check-in may be a little frustrating if you've arrived on a long-haul flight. The rooms are comfortable, water is plentiful, and breakfast is a delight. The hotel is situated in the Deira area, not far from the central business district, and about a 5-minute ride from the DXB airport. Unfortunately, due to its location, virtually noplace a visitor might want to go is within walking distance, so transportation by taxi is necessary. That is the price one pays for a more modest rate, I suppose. Good value for money.

discount hotels downtown?
by Brad836
I am considering taking holiday to Dubai. I have a friend that lived in the UAE for a short time a number of years ago, and loved it. I have never been before. What if any are some good clean discount hotels downtown? That are safe and near transportation restaurants shopping etc... I know this question is rather open ended, but I'm a newbie to Dubai.
Thank you for any tips/suggestions.

There are lot's of discount places in Dubai, but my experience is you get what you pay for. The Ramada Dubai, on Dur Dubai Road downtown Dubai is where I always stay. A little more expensive, but right in the heart of where you will want to be! Good Luck!

I can suggest you two locations that hotels are not expensive (Compare to hotel rates in Dubai). First is in Sabakha area and the second one in Gold Souk area. In both of this areas there are many hotels and both near to public transport (Bus) and restaurants. In general hotels are very safe.

Bur Dubai is also a good location for shops, souks, restaurants, an easy walk to the creek and the abra (water taxi) station to take you across to Deira side.It has plenty of budget hotels plus better quality ones. You'll get some ideas from www.godubai.com

Need help selecting Friday Brunch
by Sylar
I will be going to Dubai for the 2nd time & want to sample the friday brunch.
Firstly, I should point out that, I do not drink Alcohol so that is not a factor to me.
I am looking for a variety of cuisine, including Indian preferably, and good deserts and soft drinks.
Any recommendations

Hi there
Why not try Spice Island at the Renaissance Hotel - is on Fri and Sat from 12-3pm and each evening. Has several different cooking stations including Indian dishes and costs 149AED (169 AED on evenings) per adult for the soft drinks package (including water, juices, soft drinks). The desserts are also very good and there is quite a variety! We go a lot for the Fri brunch and we like it a lot!

Hello from Dubai :-)
Well, if you don't drink alcohol then you would probably be wasting money with most of the Friday brunches, because they have higher prices in anticipation of people wanting to get drunk.
However, there are also brunches that are unlicensed = no alcohol.
I for one have visited Spice Island frequently over the past 10 years, and in my opinion I think the food is pretty sub-standard and the quality is very irregular.
Some dishes are very good, and others have made friends of mine sick on more than one occasion.
For a full list of great reviews on the city's Friday brunches, have a look at this website:

If your looking for something cheap but good
Go to Times Cafe at Ramee Hotel near maktoum bridge
AED 79 -- for a fairly good meal + two complimentary alcoholic drinks. Soft drinks are included.
They also have free games and billiards during the 12 to 4 brunch time.
Good music
