Excellent Hotel

Stayed here in February 2008. The hotel is not on a par with the glittering palaces of Jumeirah Beach, but then it's a city centre hotel, slap bang in a bit of the real Dubai.

Located on a busy roundabout in Satwa, it's about 10 mins from the beach and about 10 mins from the creek. There's plenty to see & do in the immediate area - an excellent Iranian restaurant (Pars) and an excellent Pakistani restaurant (Ravi's) are all withing a couple of minutes walk. There's also plenty of "interesting" shopping to be done in the surrounding streets.

The hotel itself is comfortable - the rooms are a little dated, but they're large, clean and decently furnished. There are a number of restaurants in the hotel - ranging from Aussie Legends (which does a mean Thursday night!) to Italian, Mexican and Chinese. There's an excellent health club and a decent pool to relax beside after a foray into the city.

The staff were very helpful and I couldn't fault any element of the service that we received at the hotel. They'll arrange private cars, hail taxis, arrange sightseeing trips etc.

Unique Quality: Remember that this is a proper city centre hotel, it's got the buzz of a city hotel, not a leisure palace. It's on a busy junction but you don't hear the traffic noise - in fact it's a bit of an oasis of calm amidst all the hustle & bustle of the city streets.

Avoid this one!

After completing an online booking which allowed 1 child to stay free, we were slogged with the cost of a fold away bed. The staff refused to listen and said the child could only stay free with exisitng bedding.

The bed was hard, and the paint was falling from the ceiling in the bathroom in HUGE blobs.

Unique Quality: It's not in a touristy area. You get to live amongst the locals.

Decent Hotel

It's not set in lush grounds, it's not some pseudo 1001 Arabian Nights fantasy, it's a smallish hotel set on a busy roundabout in downtown Dubai. And you know what? It's a great hotel.

Rooms are large, clean and completely functional. Bathrooms are clean and plenty big enough. There are at least 6 eating establishments in the hotel and the Aussie Legends bar is relatively cheap for a pint & packed on a Thursday night.

The staff were great - made every effort to ensure that we had a great stay - can't fault the place at all.

Unique Quality: Pool is small but perfectly formed.

4* affordable, central, popular with VT members!

This is a great little city hotel of an Australian chain, with friendly staff, a sufficient pool area & loads of other facilities: I think it's pretty good value for your money as well, and in the last 4 years (since 2006) many fellow VTers have stayed here upon my recommendation & agreed with me.
The hotel is very safe, as only hotel guests can use one set of elevators by swiping their security card, so no "outsiders" can ascend to the residence floor. The main selling point here is the central location- no doubt about it.

Some nearby attractions/sights are:
Satwa Shopping Street: 2-minute walk across the street.
The Beach, Al Ittihad House (big flag) & Jumeirah Mosque - 2-minute drive.
Mercato Shopping Mall - 5-minute drive.
Bur Juman Mall, Museum, Textile Souk & the Creek - 10-minute drive.
Deira City Centre, Gold Souk & the airport - 20+-minute drive (well, depending on traffic!)

Al Diyafah Street is just a bunny-hop away, with some shops and a mall with internet cafe, but mainly this is "weight-gainers lane": Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut, Arabic bistros, etc. etc. etc.

Unique Quality: The hotel also houses some great restaurants & bars. Don't let the size of the hotel fool you: there's a lot to be experienced, tasted & sampled!
Aussie Legends - Restaurant & Bar.
Il Rustico - Italian Restaurant.
Billy Blues - BBQ / Steak Restaurant & Bar.
Cactus Cantina - Mexican Restaurant & Bar.
Four Seasons - Chinese Restaurant.
St Andrews Victorian Snug - Dubai's only Scottish Pub.
Coconut Grove - Indian Restaurant.
(My all-time favourites are Cactus Cantina, Aussie Legends & Coconut Grove)

UPDATE OCT. 2010: The nearest Metro Station is at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Nice downtown hotel

We've only stayed there for two nights, but it was more than OK. We had a room on the executive floor and it was pretty big, the view was nice and what I liked the most was that they had tea and coffee facilities and also iron and ironing board. The breakfast was also delicious and it was served at a higher floor.

Unique Quality: The hotel facilities were OK, even the pool, considering that it's a downtown hotel. Another thing that's made for the guests' safety : the acces in the hotel's elevator is possible only using the room's key card.

Great location

by FlaCapt about Rydges Plaza Hotel

This hotel in central to most of Dubai. The rooms are very nice, the staff is great and you have internet access in the room.

There are several restaurants located in the hotel including several bars. There were no surprises when checking out. Great pool areas, nice bars, restaurants from fancy to layed back. You are within walking distance to the Arabian Gulf and the area surrounding the hotel is nice to walk around in.

I have never stayed at the hotel but many friends have stayed there and no complaints so far :-) It should be a family friendly hotel and you shouldn't face any problem staying there with your kid. The hotel has courtesy bus to many locations which I believe Jumeirah Beach and major shopping locations are among them. You can read more about the hotel and even contact them by Phone, Fax or snail mail on the following URL:

take care.
