Dubai camel safari

by tuynesn

Hi

Can anyone tell me if they know of (or can recommend) a short overnight camel safari from Dubai.

Thanks

We went on a desert outing and rode camels with Arabian Adventures. Very good.
Maybe they could help with the safari or else try one of the others in this list.

Hi there.

There are no Camel "safaris" with a specific destination from Dubai. However, as mentioned above, you can go on a desert safari where you can do short (5-10min) camel rides around the tour operator's desert camp.

Why don't you sent a VT email to this person...VidER . I notice he lives in Dubai and has an address to do with camel camps....He may not see your question as I do not think he comes in a lot but he recently asked a question on the forum..

Hi!

As for Camel safaris I really have no idea but at the lobby of all Dubai Hotels you will find brochures for the top safari providers. You may also search the web for the best ones, and the worst ones to avoid.

As for staying in a strategic place, there isn't really one in Dubai. Shopping areas are scattered around the city. If you are into modern malls you may want to stay somewhere near (Sheikh Zayed Road). If you were into older markets and bazars then you may want to stay in (Deira), close to the creek.

Walking is not always an option in Dubai as it gets close to 50 degrees (Celsius) sometimes!

Let me know if you need any other questions.

And thanks to wise23girl for mentioning my name!

Arabic Wedding... if you're invited, don't miss it

by JessH

Arabic weddings are traditionally very different from the way they are celebrated in the Western world, although many new "customs" have sneaked their way into even the most traditional of ceremonies: cakes, white dresses, wedding rings, etc. can nowadays also be found under the black veils of their society.

The wedding has 2 seperate parties: 1 for the men and 1 for the women. Muslim life is strongly gender-seperated, and even the union of man & woman makes no exception.

So if you ever have the chance to be invited to an Arabic wedding, take it! It's a wonderful & very "exotic" experience, rather different to Western ideals & ceremonies.

TIP: You can tell which families are gearing-up for a wedding within the family, as the houses are decorated with chains and chains of bright lightbulbs (visible behind the little girl in my picture).

In my picture, you can see men & women sitting together only because they are part of the same family and we were celebrating during a lunch prior to the actual wedding itself. The women were singing and playing the tamborines, while the young men played the "Tabla" drums...

My mother & I were once fortunate enough to be invited to an Arabic wedding at a friend's place. We sat on the floor, played with the children, played the drums and listened to the women sing traditional songs of joy for the bride & groom.

souks - oriental markets

by aroundtheglobe about spices market

On the spice souk there is a typical oriental atmosphere. you can walk for hours threw the old town and taste spices. Of course, bargaining is very popular and sellars won't let you go before you bought something! nothing but spices

House all night long with amazing sunset view

by Shibiru about 360 Bar

This hot spot, 3 years ago, was a great place to enjoy a relaxing afternoon and see a beautiful sunset.

Times have changed, now, you need your name in the list and Friday is the whole night of repetitive house. It still is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon as it has direct views to the famous Burj Al Arab Hotel.

Don't forget to do your reservation before you go!

In summer time, it's closed, as it gets too hot to be outside. No sneakers, rather dressed up...

Because it's an outdoor bar and surrounded by the ocean it can get very cold and windy depending on the season you go.

Abras

by Amisha074

Getting around in Dubai is pretty easy. It's a smallish city and there are plenty of taxis and buses. But..there's traffic...specially on weekends and throughout the Dubai shopping festival. The two bridges (Maktoum and Garhoud) that run across the creek and connect Deira and Bur Dubai are always busy. Same goes for the Shindaga tunnel.

The best way to get to Deira from Bur Dubai and vice versa, is by Abra. Abras are wooden boats that run on diesel. The fare is 50 fils (half a dirham). You can take an abra from the Al Seef walkway or near the HSBC bank building in Bur Dubai. However and abra may not always turn out to be convenient as they operate from only two points on the creek.

You can also hire an abra for a an hour or two. Its a nice experience. Shouldn't cost more than Dhs. 50 an hour.
