As we are only visiting for 2 days I wont be bringing along our car seat as we have one in the UK to use, so my question is, do taxis allow small c hildren in them without a car seat, can they sit on your knee (we wont be going long distances I wouldnt have thought) or do any taxis come with car seats?
Also, we are staying at the Savoy Park HOtel apartments, Im not expecting anything flash for the money it cost but does anyone have an opinion on it? Its too late to change if its awful but at least I would be prepared!!
Hi :-)
Dubai is still very "behind" when it comes to road safety. You'll (unfortunately) see a lot of people driving around the city with their kids running wild in the car. No seatbelt, and definitely no child safety seats.
The taxi companies don't offer child seats (as far as I'm aware). It's normal to have children in the car without them. Just at least make sure you sit in the back, and there's no issue with the driver.
The Savoy Park apartments are OK. Nothing fancy, as you said, but from what I've heard they're clean and alright. They're in a very central area. The closets sights/shopping areas for you will be:
>> BUR JUMAN Mall (copy & paste the links into your browser):

>> Textile Souk
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/16c15/
>> Dubai Museum

>> and of course the Dubai Creek itself:

Hope this information helps,
have a good stay.

I haven't seen taxis with child seats either, I don't think they're available.
Savoy Park Apartments is in a good location, it's quite new and should be perfectly OK. We used similar, but older, apartments before we moved here and they were clean, had everything we needed and were good value for what you get.
Hello
I am thinking of taking my whole immeditae family to Dubai for my parents anniversary. I am trying desperately to look for apartments or villas to rent in Dubai but am finding this increasingly difficult.
As its a very important family gathering, I wanted to book an apartment as opposed to a Hotel. The family includes 6 adults and 2 children who are 10 yrs old.
I did manage to find one rental apartment (yeah only one) on the internet which is in the Dubai Marina. As I have never been to Dubai would like to know what its like staying there (proximity to beaches, restaurants and most importantly the shopping).
Any help on this would be really appreciated !!
Many thanks
Neha
Also, we are thinking oF going there for a week in July 2005 - whats the weather like - will it really be that hot or is it bearable !
Hello there, well nice planning. Dubai has got lots of hotels and furnished accommodations (Apartments)for residing in. I post the name and telephone number of some of them, you can call them and for sure you can find what you are looking for.
Depending on where you stay, you can always go to beaches, shopping malls and restaurants. Taxi service is excellent and you can also rent a big van to accommodate all the family when you go out:)
In June and July Dubai is very hot and humid, above 40 degree in the mornings and early afternoon. But you shouldnt worry every where is air conditioned. Bring good sunglasses and lots of sun block cream with you. Casual dressing is great while being outdoor. Anyhow Dubai has got a lot to offer to the visitors and I am sure you will enjoy your visit.
As I told I leave some telephone numbers for you and for sure you will find the right place, just give them a call. I wish you all a safe trip and happy times in Dubai.

Hi! as mentioned before, it is very easy to rent some hotel apartments so just look on the net for some more information (there are a lot of places). About weather in july....hmmmm...it depends what you would like to do, as it is incredibly hot and humid, so not too many choices for outdoor activities. My advice?Postpone it to October or November if possible.
Have a nice time!
