Airport to IBIS Emirates Mall

by JoeRizal

Hi all,

May I know roughly how much is taxi fare from Dubai International Airport to Ibis Emirates ? I'll be arriving in Dubai early in the morning - 4 a.m.

I've read many postings on the opening of the remaining routes of Metro Red Line by February this yr. I'll be in Dubai in 2 weeks time - do u think by then it will be operational ?

I wish I could take metro from airport to the hotel but big bags are not allowed right ? :(

Thanks all for your help.

Joe

I agree, I guess it would be about AED50 or AED60 from airport to the hotel.

A recent report said the remaining Red Line stations won't open until April. Apart from the luggage issue the Metro trains don't start operating until 6am weekdays and 2pm on Fridays.

I agree with Colin: the remaining Metro stations on the Red Line have been delayed for 2 months, so won't be open before April.

I really don't understand their logic behind having a station at the airport, yet you aren't allowed to take suitcases onto the metro.... madness.

Travel Tips for Dubai

Currency and current used in Dubai

by xuessium

CURRENCY
UAE uses the UAE Dirham (AED) and it is a freely exchangeable currency.
The smaller denominations are in Fils.

CURRENT
UAE uses the 3-prong rectangular blade plug.
Voltage is 220V and current is 50 Hz.

Indoor snow sports

by Durfun

Head for Ski Dubai for some snow sports anytime of the year. It feels particularly funky if you did this in summer, as generally one needs a resort at very high altitude to maintain enough snow-cover to facilitate skiing, or one needs to go to a glacier.

However, in Dubai you could ski/board/tobaggon even when it is 50 degrees Celsius outside (as it often is in summer).

At the lower edge you will find a snow park with various themes and rides for kids 7 nursery slopes to learn skiing/boarding.

The higher runs offer some challenging sections for more experienced skiiers.

Packages on offer are very economical: 2 hours skiing (including jacket/salopette hire, equipment, and ski pass) only costs 180 AED. you get a 10% discount if you wear your own gear. Gloves must be owned/purchased for hygiene reasons though. It's better value if you opt for a whole day of skiing/boarding, costing 320 AED. Season passes are also available!

Opening hours are long, right upto 2300 hours on certain days. And for the first Monday of every month there are freestyle nights, offering 3 hour sessions for the 2 hour price. Bring your own equipment or hire without fear! The ski sessions pricing includes equipment hire & a pass for the number of hours required.

10% discount available if your wear your own kit.

Gloves must be bought or bring your own.

by Quero about Irish Village Pub

The Irish Village is an enormously popular spot among the expat community. You can get your fill of beer and still be outdoors since the seating is in a private garden area. As you would expect, the fare is pub food--fried, filling, and fattening. But what the h*ll, once in a while. The suds are fattening, too! Euro casual. Bare arms and legs are okay!
