Dubai International Film Festivals
by Rinjani
It was quite exciting to wait the event. It is a first film festival held in Dubai. I signed up as a volunteer for the festival (Dec 6th to 11th ) and I had a great experience.
This year, the film screened in ; Madinat Jumeirah theater, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai Media City and Mercatto Mall. In several places there were big banners and advertisement of the film festival. The respond of the audience was quite impressive. Most people I met said that they satisfied with the programs. There were nine categories for film festival ; Gala Screenings, Contemporary World Cinema, Operation Cultural Bridge, Hi-Tech Hollywood, Destination Contemporary, Arabian Nights, Bollywood Meets Hollywood, Cinema from the Subcomtinent and A Tribute to Omar Sharif. As a volunteer, it was a beautiful experience to get involved in such a big event. To get to know new people from different places, work with DIFF staffs and other fellow volunteers, having a chance to watch the beautiful movies and having a chance to meet our favorite movie stars.
I had a chance to see a heart-throb Orlando Bloom. Shortly to say, he is soooo cool!! Another stars attended the party in Madinat Jumeirah were Morgan Freeman and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
It was great to know that film can become an effective way to bridge all the differences. No matter the race, religion, skin color, through film, we speak the language that we understand. It was beautiful!!

Al Boom Diving
by Tdiver
A very well run diving centre. Do your pool training in Dubai, then experience the real deal over in Fujeirah, on the East coast, where the diving is fantastic, or up in Musandam, Oman, where it is equally great.
OK so the early 06.45 start for Fujeirah and Musandam is hard but the diving IS WORTH IT.
I only got to dive in the Al Aqah dive centre at the Le Meridien, Al Aqah Beach Resort, on the East coast. We got lucky and saw a whale shark, several mantas, turtles and reef sharks, as well as the normal lots of fish. Visibility was from 10 to 15 m. All equipment can be supplied, there is also a large shop to tempt you to purchase some personal gear, books and accessories.

Dubai is maybe famous for it's expensive shopping centers. this didn't matter for me because I can't afford such things anyway. I was rather impressed about all the european chains they have there too. the huge carrefour is located close to deira. It gives one great european atmosphere that is needed after a hot and exhausting walk threw the oriental souks of deira food, cheap perfums, clothes.....everything you can buy in european carrefours too;-) cheaper than european average
A True Irish Pub & Restaurant in Spirit and Decor
by miso80 about The Irish Village
One of the older places in Dubai..I'm writing about it now, although I haven't been there in quite some time..but I really REALLY miss it! Dubai being a new city and all, there are very few places that you can really feel like they have a little history to them..a little soul. The Irish Village is definitely one of the places where you can feel like you're in a place that's had a short, but interesting life..You can almost feel like this place attracts its own group of people.. People here will come for drinks, to chit chat and laugh and have a good time..or to have some good ol' fish and chips. Whatever you plan to do at the Irish Village..I guarantee that it will make you feel light-hearted and chilled. I love this place..i really should go to it soon! Perhaps this weekend ;) As you please...this place is casual, unpretentious and plain comfy.
Great outdoor experience
by vmirela about Boardwalk
Don't miss this place, you will not regret it. It is located nearby Park Hyatt, in Deira. There is indoor part, but the outdoor is much nicer, day-night, anytime...Upstairs is the Aquarium restaurant, which is quite pricy, while the Boardwalk is quite reasonable with prices for food and drink, considering its location. There are three wooden decks, and you can seat just above the water, overlooking the Creek, as well as yachts parked next to the restaurant. Everything is in wood as I said, which gives it a real seaside-look feeling. Sometimes, seagals may bug you a bit, trying to eat from your plate, but I haven't seen them that often. Staff is quite friendly.
I would recommend their ice coffee after a meal, it is really great and at quite good price. You may choose a variety of the international meal offers, they are very tasty. It is best to go there around 4-5 p.m. and catch the sunset. Soft latin music is usually played in the background. It is a very pleasant and relaxing place for casual gathering with friends, families or colleagues.
