best priced traditional hotel

absolutely PERFECT! We had all we need - hot water, cable TV, views and very interesting stay. Served breakfast, nothing special but it was enough - local fresh yougurt, honey, fresh local bread, coffee and tea, jam and cheese. For the price we paid it was perfect.
Rooms not all have 'bathroom' in the room, and dont think bathroom is something wow there, very simple shower and WC, not modern at all but it had hot water and it was clean!
If you having problems climbing stairs - book room on low floors as there is no lift and even though we fine with climbing, went out of breath reaching 3rd floor! But it was worth it! view was nicer:)
NOT super silent place as it is in an old town of Sana'a, prayer caller wakes you up at 4am :) which was very interested as it was different from other arabic countries - its an experience! just like this:

Unique Quality: very very traditional with little modern touch - hot water, cable TV, small beautiful restaurant in courtyard, IT WAS PERFECT

WARNING; THEY ONLY ACCEPT AMEX AND MASTERCARD!!!! SO HAVE CASH TO PAY, if manager asks to pay by western union - its ok, you can trust him - Gamal Younis

Very Popular Tourist Hotel

We tried to stay here, but they were booked. However ,we did get a good look around the place. Very popular with tour groups, so book well in advance. Clean rooms in a tall old building. Not as much character or old charm as some other places. Double rooms with private baths available at $25, including a basic breakfast. $80 for a suite. Restaurant on site with Yemeni food at reasonable prices. We talked with a number of people who stayed there who were very happy with their experience. Manager's name is Gamal Younis.

Unique Quality: Easily accessible just off the Wadi As Sailah Rd

An old tourist haunt

I stayed here one night and don't regret it except when it came time to paying the bill since Gamal the manager was not there and the guy working the front desk added a little $25 extra tax to my bill. The place is clean and it is on the parimeter of the Old City. The manager Gamal Younies is a great guy and responds to his emails promptly which is unique in Yemen.
There are only a couple of rooms with views so try and reserve one prior to arriving. Gamal can also arrange a car a driver to take you to most of the local cites or surrounds

Unique Quality: The courtyard restaurant is a great place to unwind after walking around the old city.
Not all rooms have their own bathroom so ask prior if that is important to you.

a traditional tower house in the old town

The Arabia Felix Hotel is one of the few hotels located in the old town, in four traditional tower houses... while walking around we checked out a couple of other ones, and they were nowhere as good as the Arabia Felix, either dirty, or with shared bathrooms, or both. At the Arabia Felix our room, though simple, was spotless.

The best thing about the hotel, anyway, is the staff... just amazing and friendly. I happened to forget my mobile at reception and soon everyone was looking for me to hand it back. Three hours later I still had people coming up to me about the cell phone, which had been happily retrieved a long time before.

Do make reservations as far in advance as you can, as many tour operators use this hotel often. During our stay, we saw many people being turned away. A double room (en suite) costs 25 euros, and a single 20... breakfast is included.

Unique Quality: Breakfast is a great simple meal, taken in the inner courtyard: delicious bread, butter, jam, cheese, bananas, oranges and... honey: the most delicious honey I have ever tasted.

Fun fact: we had two mirrors while Xaver had none, but he had two rolls of toilet paper and us none. We traded.

A temple of travellers

This is a simple hotel in the middle of old town, a few steps away from the suq.
It's a typical Yemenite building, that gives you the feeling of staying in a local house and the staff is really friendly and always helpful.
You do not have conforts like air conditioning or telephone in your room but you also do not really need them, specially the air conditioning as the building is fresh in the day and warm in the night, a great example of how to save energy!
Not all rooms have tv also, but in a city like Sanaa, tv isn't something you really need too.
Price is about 25€ for a douible room and 20€ for a single one.
The internet service they offer is really slow and often not working so just go in one outside, the restaurant is good but do not expect huge breakfast.

Unique Quality: The rooms, here you really have the chance to stay in a typical Yemenite building and ofcourse the location, extremely convenient for your walks in the old town.
