Five Star Luxury - and a bar!

The 5 STAR Movenpick is set on a hill at Dahr Himyar close to the embassies so you are away from the hustle and bustle of Sana’a, which could or could not be a good thing depending on your needs. We found it a nice haven to go back to after a hard day in the old town and it is the only truly luxurious by Western standards hotel we stayed in.
It has 340 rooms – non-smoking rooms are available. The rooms are really spacious with huge beds and lots of pillows and have a desk, sitting area, internet access, satellite TV, safe and mini bar.
There are 2 swimming pools but I found the outdoor pool, which is huge, too cold as Sana’a is at high altitude and a bit chilly. The indoor pool is in the fitness centre next door to the hotel and is lovely and warm. It is long enough to swim laps but not if there are many people in it. I didn’t check out the fitness centre but the equipment looked to be a good standard and the changing rooms were very good. There is a ladies only gym and spa treatments are available.
This is the only hotel we stayed in with a bar serving a good selection of spirits as well as beers. It closes at 11pm though!
The main restaurant serves a very good buffet with lots of choice of International food. However the service is a bit slow for coffee at breakfast – they have that irritating system of filling your cup not leaving you the pot.
There is a lobby café and a snack bar by the pool but I didn’t try either of these.
There is also a nightclub called The Horseshoe, which I didn’t try either.
They take the major credit cards.
