Funduq Khaled: A Simplistic Funduq
After climbing up through the mountains in Shaharah you will def want to sit down and rest your bottom. After hours of being bumped and smashed inside the landcruiser this funduq is a great place to unwind. The place is basic but very clean and affordable. The tray of food in the morning and evening is well worth the 1500 YR you pay for it. The owners are very sweet and they will help you in anyway possible. Note that most travel agents or drivers will set you up here so you will probably not have to search very far. The town is small and this funduq is the best one in the village for travellers.
Unique Quality: You will get a lot of blankets to keep you warm, mattresses on the floor and the room is relatively quiet. The owners give you healthy portions of food and tea in the morning and evening.

Funduq Francesca: typical funduq: basic perfection!
Massive old building. Owner is a nice lady who says her name is Francesca (which figures given the name of the hotel, but is rather surprising in a remote Yemeni village).
There is supposed to be another hotel, funduq Khaled, which was subscribed as 'better than Francesca' by someone I know. It's supposedly more centrally located, ask a little guy and he'll take you there no doubt (it's a small village).
Unique Quality: Basic rooms (mattresses on the floor). very very basic Yemeni food (no menu). YER 1000-2000 should cover dinner, room and breakfast. (I paid 8000 total for two of us plus 8 police escorts; the latter is not compulsory by the way, but it brought the average price per person down considerably.)
