Pompano BEach Club
I just returned from 4 nights at Pompano- most beautiful location and fantastic views. I am in complete agreement with the reviewer who posted his message on June 15th, from Columbia, MD. Review was right on. Although we had a much shorter stay, we, too were miffed that we were seated towards the back, away from the outside when dining at Cambridge Beaches under the Meal Exchange...service at Pompano was so slow but so friendly and warm. Overall, the experience was fantastic!
Pompano Beach Club is a popular resort located on the Western part of Bermdua. It is right on it's private beach with great swimming, a golf course, a pool and multiple hot tubs on different levels climbing the building. 3 meals a day are offered plus a lunch/drink bar by the pool, with 2 dining rooms. I think you can stay in the actual building, but we stayed in one of the many surrounding buildings in condo-like accommodations. This is my first review so I don't really know what to say, except everything was classy and nice. Two very cool hot tubs in their own little pagoda with sand all around looking over the ocean. One con, however, was that during our stay the "hot tubs" would be inexplicably cold!
The Pompano Beach Club is fantastic. The staff are all courteous, friendly and most helpful. The rooms are lovely and the entire complex is so tastefully decorated. And the views..wow..terrific. The five course dinners are all gourmet. We stayed a week, meeting friends there and we all agreed that it was absolutely the best place to be when visiting Bermuda. Pompano is big enough to have everything you want yet has that wonderful family run/owned feeling. The whole experience was top-notch. We hope to go back.
First time back to bermuda in 33 yrs....best time ever...Pompano beach club outstanding...great food great service...cant wait to come back....People so friendly...Christin our waiter was outstanding !
The best small hotel in Bermuda
We returned to the Pompano Beach Club for Easter vacation this year. It is a family run hotel where the guests are pretty much treated like family. We arrived with two adults, a 12 yo boy and a 16 yo girl. The kids enjoyed the hotel and Bermuda as much as or more than we did. The Lamb brothers who are the proprietors were extremely gracious. The food in the dining room verges toward the exquisite. Our entire experience was wonderful and we would return in an instant.
From the moment you walk through the door until the day you leave, you are treated like family. The staff at the Pompano go out of their way to ensure that everyone is having an enjoyable vacation. The food, to my surprise, was delicious. We didn't want to dine anywhere else during our stay. And who can beat the breathtaking views, it was paradise!! The Pompano exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be returning.
The view from the hotel was absolutely gorgeous- one of the prettiest we've seen! Service was great.. the staff was very attentive. We had a one bedroom suite which was very spacious but the bathroom could definitely use some updating. (the shower curtain and window dressing seemed very, very old) Overall, it was a wonderful vacation and I would highly recommend the hotel!
Extraordinairy facilities and service
This was my wife's and my first trip to Bermuda and we selected Pompano based largely on the reviews...our high expectations were surpassed! The location, facilities, food and service were all top-notch. A more casual, friendly atmosphere could not be possible. We did the dine-around at the Reefs one night and can honestly say that the food was no better than at Pompano--and the Pompano's dinner is a whopping five course extravaganza. The superior class room we had was large and modern with a great view of the sea. The staff willingly drove us to and from the ferry and bus stops. Perhaps because the property attracts golfers, the beach and pool areas were never crowded and plenty of chaises were always available. In sum, we had a totally enjoyable 5 days at this first-class operation.
Great staff, good food, fantastic views
Just got back a couple of days ago from almost 2 weeks at the Pompano. We selected it on the basis of this website and had an excellent time, assisted by absolutely perfect 85 degree sunny weather.
Positives: the staff (including the owner Larry, the manager Tim, Steve, Rob, Chris the intern and really everybody there) is SO friendly and accommodating; the views are spectacular; the water is perfect, like a huge pool, with no menacing stuff on the bottom and usually only the gentlest of waves; the food is above average and very plentiful; the deluxe rooms are spacious and comfortable; there is really no reason to leave the resort, except for a change in venue for dinner; the on-site massage therapist is very good; the nightly entertainment is also very good, especially the DJ.
Not-so-positives: the food is good but not great; the dine-around plan does not work for guests staying for more than a few days (see below); the rooms and public areas are not as elegant/upscale as the price would lead you to expect, and as other competing resorts; the lunch service is UNBELIEVABLY SLOW - you have to schedule 1 1/2-2 hours for lunch around the pool (we ended up saving leftovers from dinner and breakfast and having them for lunch so as to avoid the aggravation); there is a bit of a funky odor that needs to be taken care of, both in the room and in the public areas; the beach is tiny and can get really crowded on busy days; the wine list is extremely limited and overpriced; the "champagne" advertised as included in the deluxe package (for which we paid well over $6,000) is Asti Spumanti; the deluxe rooms closest to the clubhouse get an inordinate amount of noise from late night revelers leaving on their mopeds and in cars, you have to sleep with the windows closed and even then it is pointless to go to bed before the entertainment ends.
Advice on the dine-around: we went for 12 days, fully expecting to take advantage of the dine around program at the Reefs, Coco Reef, and Cambridge Beaches. We put our name on the list for just about every day that we would be there, since we had heard that it was not always possible, that the other resorts had to send an equal number of people to the Pompano for them to be able to send someone there. Anyway, we were first on the list for many of the days that we were there, due to our thinking ahead on this. However, the Pompano staff decides who gets to dine around based on if you have been "out" yet. This means that the people who are staying 2, 3, or 4 days, or even a week, get priority over people staying longer, even if your name is first on the list. Mathematically it is grossly biased towards short term guests. So we gave up in frustration. The Pompano graciously allowed us to go off the meal plan for the final 3 days since we were really tired of the food there and wanted to try some other places. We appreciated that accommodation and took full advantage by trying out some popular restaurants, where we had excellent meals.
Also, beware of the fact that the other resorts on the dine-around program do not allow you to dine outside. Many of us found this to be a problem, since the weather and views were so beautiful that it was a shame to be stuck in a stuffy dining room. Despite arriving early to be in time for the "first come/first served" policy, we were denied the opportunity to take one of the many empty tables available. We mentioned this to the Pompano management, but they are powerless to do anything about it.
All this is to say that if you are planning on going for 1 or 2 weeks or more, and the dine-around is a key feature in your mind, think again.
I don't want to say that it was a huge negative, I just wanted to bring it up since no one else had done so in any of these reviews. Overall the experience was great and we would stay there again, we would just be in a position to evaluate it differently and make different choices regarding dining and room location. You should have the same opportunity when making your decision to stay here.
Better each trip!
We were at the Pompano from June 3rd through the 12th. We can't say enough about the staff (especially Brenden and Larry), and the food, the views, the service, the weather. Since this was our third stay in 10 years, we have seen the island get more populated and hectic. But, thankfully, the Pompano is still very restful and private. It was like a beautiful dream everyday!
