Rehearsal Dinner at Surf Side
What did I do last summer? I got married in Bermuda! And while I was there, I spent a very memorable evening at Surf Side Beach Club, entertaining my wedding guests the night before the big event. The entire staff worked with me for months to make this a perfect evening. I felt like a princess the way they treated me. From the flowers to the food, and the service to the ambience, the atmosphere was magnificent. The Surf Side became the spot where both families gathered together for the first time in Bermuda, and everyone was impressed. We met at poolside, taking in the amazing view of the ocean. The staff's kindness, courtesy, and attention to detail were flawless. They offered such personable service that we ended up taking group pictures together. Thank you, Surf Side!

Couldn't have asked for anything more...
We got married at the Surf Side Beach Club in October of 2004. A year before our wedding date, we traveled to Bermuda to speak with different hotels on the island to choose where we wanted to hold our wedding. After meeting with several different larger hotels, we chose the Surf Side. We were so pleased with the staff there during our meeting. They were willing to do anything we wanted and were completely open to any and all suggestions. The views offered from this hotel were everything we were looking for and we knew almost immediately that this was the place we were both hoping to find.
After returning home from that original trip, the planning began. For an entire year, all my questions and concerns were dealt with in a timely manner over email and via phone calls. Bryony Harvey and her entire staff bent over backwards for all our requests and were with us every step of the way. From plans being made and then changed, they never got tired of helping or fed up with our attention to detail.
The year flew by and when it was time for our 60+ guests to join us in Bermuda for our destination wedding, everything went PERFECTLY!!!! The pool area where our reception was held looked AMAZING and the ceremony location down near the water was exquisite. Everything from the food/drinks down to the DJ couldn't have been better.
The Surf Side Beach Club helped make our special day magical and we are so happy we chose them for our wedding. We are looking forward to going back to Bermuda on our anniversary and we can't wait to see our friends over at the Surf Side again!!!
We highly recommend this hotel whether it's a vacation you are looking for, or a special event.
One of the Islands Secrets!!
My husband, son and niece stayed at Surf Side Beach Club from June 29th through July 6, 2004 for what was to be only the first half of our yearly vacation to Bermuda. With this being about our 10th trip to Bermuda, we had been looking for something reasonable on the island for the first half of our trip, moving to Sonesta Beach (now Wyndham) mid-way through. What we ended up with (after a few changes) was probably the best room accomodation that I have ever had on the island. We never went to Sonesta.
We upgraded once we arrived to one of the new Cliffside Suites overlooking the ocean. Specatular view from the veranda and a beautiful suite to match! "The Palms" restaurant was up to par with the usual Bermudian menu. Staff was polite and accomodating-hotel management a bit rude. Beach great, but about 5 minute walk down steps, but once there, no one on the beach but you.
I have already decided that we are returning to Surf Side next year. If you don't need all the amenities that the big resort hotels offer, Surf Side is perfect. If you do go, say hi to Lulu, the lady that works at "The Palms", she is a gem.
Beautiful suite, will be back
We stayed at the SurfSide beach club last year and this year. Last year we stayed in a cute little cottage, number 18. It was wonderful. We just got back yesterday (we went from August 25-August 31) and this time we stayed in suite numbers 60 and 61. It was beautiful. The suite was very elegant and classy. It had an enormous porch overlooking the water, a very large kitchen, a TV room, a dining room, 3 bathrooms, a master bedroom, a bedroom with a king bed, 2 fireplaces, and another bedroom with 2 full beds. It was wonderful. The staff are very nice and accomodating also. Our family has been cruising there for 21 years, and flying for 2. This is by far the best location to stay at!
We just returned from a week in Bermuda, July 4-11, and stayed at Surfside. We were scared by some of the negative reviews we read, but our stay couldn't have been better. We stayed in #18 and with a beautiful ocean view. The beach was private and accessible by a stairway. The pool was pleasant and the staff was wonderful. We had a large balcony, a kingsize bed and a living room with a sofa bed. We had a full sized fully stocked kitchen. We got a 7-day bus pass and went to the Modern Grocery store a short distance away. The restaurant at Surfside rated an A. The Barracuda Grill in Hamilton was great as was the Reef Restaurant near Surfside. The bus stop is directly in front of Surfside. We were given a welcome fruit basket as well as drinks. We will definitely return! I have stayed at Cambridge Beaches, and at the Waterloo in Hamilton. Surfside is the best bargain in Bermuda. Don't go if you want glamour, but if you want an authentic, relaxing Bermudian experience, don't miss it!
Not a favorite.
We stayed here in middle June for 1 night, and thank goodness that was it. The hotel staff did the best they could cleaning, but the rooms were very outdated, stains on carpets. Patio door lock did not work well. Could not leave screen door open to hear the ocean. Stains on bedding.
Lobby to hotel is a closet, and staff is not overly gracious. Enough room for 2 people to check in at a time maximum.
Pool and resteraunt closed a lot for weddings, so didn't get to enjoy. Beautiful landscape however, tucked into the shore of the ocean. Beach still not accessible since hurricane. Not hotels fault. Would only recommend if you are going to be out and gone a lot.
Typical Old Bermuda
This was our first stay at Surfside, but 5th trip back to Bermuda. The views are beautiful, but the resort does show some age. However, it is classic Bermuda. Much like going to a beachhouse rather than a large resort. We loved the quiet nature and intimate feel of the pool and restaurant. It is an added feature of being able to park your moped outside your door. The location is great !!!!! Expect older rooms, but very large. We would go back --- a great price for this location.
Loved the tranquility
We stayed at the Surf Side over the Labor Day weekend (2004) and had a wonderful time. The resort is small and intimate, hugging a spectacular cliffs. Beach is easily accesible by a long stairway but once you get there, you can have an endless stretch of sand and cliffs just for yourself (surf is right, not a best swimming beach). Rooms are simple but clean and large. We stayed at the cottage # 38 with a great ocean view, smell and sound. Service people are friendly and the bartender makes awesome rum swizzles. Resort is fairly close to Hamilton and South Hampton (Do not miss Henry VIII restaurant and pub live music daily!!!), just 10 -15 minute scooter ride. We will definitely stay here again.
I got married in bermuda last summer (6/04) and had many of my friends and family stay here - the customer service is horrendous, and the rooms are in poor condition (smelly, outdated bathrooms, old mattresses and stained carpeting). While the views and location are great, the beach is DIRTY, which is not typical of beautiful bermuda beaches. The restaurant is pathetically expensive and just bad diner food - i.e. defrosted fish patties. I am v. disappointed with them, even after a year. If you can afford it, stay at the reefs instead! If you can forego staying at the beach, the royal palms is a lovely hotel in Hamilton, quiet and comfortable, though I think that there is no pool, but good restaurant.
I read some mixed reviews about this hotel, so my expectations weren't too high. We picked this place because $325 for a suite seemed like a great deal. We have a small child and staying in one room would not have been a relaxing vacation, so our choices were limited. Some good points were:
-The food was good
-Staff was friendly
-The view was nice
However, there were some bad points:
-The bathroom was dirty upon our arrival: Hair on the floor, in the bathtub, in the sink
-The small beach had garbage on it, things that could have been easily removed by the hotel staff
-The pool was ok, however it was never cleaned during the time we were there
-Patio doors were very old and finally broke on day 3.
-The restaurant was way overpriced.
Overall, the room was ok, however the furniture was old and not quite comfortable. TV small. Windows dirty. It was nice, though, to have a full kitchenette, difinetely a plus. I would not stay there again unless the made some major changes. Surf Side's location has great potential, they just need better management and some renovations.
