Prospects North / Multi Plex
by jamiesno
Yellowknife has a very modern and great building called the Multi-Plex. It is a great place for conferences and there is one conference I recommend if you are trying to do business in the Canadian North.
It is called Prospects North at www.prospectsnorth.com. This is a great show with lots of speakers, booths, and culture events.

...fly in one of the planes. The whole town is build around the bush pilots, and there is nothing like using the lake as a runway. Sitting on top of a hill and watching Great Slave Lake on Canada Day.
Jolliffe Island
by jamiesno
The City of Yellowknife is not confined to teh mainland alone. In the 1940s as much activity occurred on nearby islands as on the shore. A two minute canoe ride would take you across teh narrow channel to Jolliffe Island, formerly occupied by houses, a general store, a umber yard and the Imperial Oil tank farm which stored Yellowknife's supply of heating oil and gas.
The island is named for Dr. A.W. Fred Jolliffe, a geologist who worked for teh Geological Survey of Canada from 1928 to 1945. In 1935 he mapped gold deposits in the Yellowknife area which later led to the development of the 'Con' Mine.

Public Boat Launch
by jamiesno
Down in the Old Town part of Yellowknife there is a public boat lauch as seen here in this picture. There is a sign right next to it that said:
Facility for launching and retrieval of boats only.
Boats may be moored only while parking or unloading trailer.
Parking for vehicles with boat trailers is on the lot on the corner of School Draw and Franklin Avenue.
Boats must yield to float planes in channel.
5 m per hour speed limit in lauch area and channel.
Channel 16 is for emergencies only.
No swimming in launch area.
UN Monument
by jamiesno
Along the Frame Trail Network you will pass by the Department of National Defence northern headquarters and the UN monument is out front of the building so it makes for an interesting point of interest.
