Survey Stones
As surveying new territory was always taken seriously a meridional line was established and these stones were used in 1820. You can still see them in the Victoria Park area. Three stones were used but I only saw these two.

The City Cinema in downtown Charlottetown is a small movie theatre that shows mostly independent and foreign films (many of which are in subtitles). So if you want to see a non-Hollywood movie, this is the place to go. To know which movies are showing when, check out the City Cinema page in The Buzz - PEI's artsy newspaper.
Beaconsfield is a house dating back from the Victorian Era. It was built in 1877 for a rich shipbuilder/merchant/businessman named James Peake Jr., and since he loved to show off his wealth, the house was very fancy (and still is). It was one of the fanciest houses in town and was used to entertain famous guests, including royalty. Later, the Peakes went bankrupt, and the house went to someone else, and then became a residence for young women who worked in Charlottetown or were attending Prince of Wales College.
In the early 1970s, the Prince Edward Island Heritage Foundation bought the property and opened it in 1973 as Beaconsfield. Now it is
a tourist site open in the summer. There are tour guides in the house who will take you around to the different rooms and tell you about the history of the house.
After bouncing and boozing around New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia for two weeks, I thought I would spend about a week relaxing (i.e. sobering up) on Prince Edward Island. I thought the nice sand beaches and relatively warm weather would do me some good. You know, make another attempt at "getting to know myself."
Well after a few days camping in PEI National Park, I heard about a Hawaiian Topic bikini contest that was going to be held in Charlottetown and this sent me packing my tent. It was time to find a hotel in Charlottetown, catch a hot shower and find out where that bikini contest was going to be...it was also time to find another pub....
