A great time at the Caribou Lodge, Banff.

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 3, 2010

We were 2 couples staying at the Banff Caribou Lodge And Spa and had a great time. We got a great deal when we booked as part of a trip with Canadian Affair. I sent an E-mail ahead with a couple of questions and mentioning the fact that it was our anniversary and we were all upgraded and a card, message and bottle of bubbly were left in our room. The room was fine with more than enough room, very clean and equiped with all that we needed. We were on a room only basis and didn't try breakfast or any meals so can't comment on the food. We had all the ingredients to mix our own B52's in our room and the bar staff were more than happy to supply us with glasses and a suitable jug.

Unique Quality: The location suited us as The Banff Caribou Lodge And Spa is situated just outside the town centre and although it is on the main road into town noise wasn't a problem. It was a pleasant walk into, or back from, town which took about 10 - 15 minutes. A bonus was that we were given free passes for us all to use on the town tourist bus that stops right outside and runs down into town and back if you don't fancy the walk. We absolutely loved everything about Banff and were sorry that we had just 4 nights there. If we are ever lucky enough to return I know where we will ne staying !!!!!

Banff Caribou Lodge

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 5, 2009

The Banff Caribou Lodge is located on the east end of the main street in Banff, Banff Ave., so it's not quite in the middle of all the action. The main part of town is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The lobby is decorated, as you would expect, like a lodge, dark brown woods and a big fire place in the middle, very inviting looking. The young man at the front desk when we checked in was quite nice, which is nothing less than expected in Banff. We were offered a free bus pass for the duration of our stay. The room itself was not decorated like the lobby at all, but was rather your basic hotel room. The room itself was a bit smaller than what I was expecting. The bed was extremely comfortable with a big, soft duvet and good soft pillows. The bathroom was very dim and the shower was odd (faucets). There is a couch and a tv in the room, as well as a table with a couple of chairs. There is no fridge or microwave, but there is tea and coffee. We had a nice view of a mountain right across the street. The Banff Caribou Lodge also features the Red Earth Spa which has a variety of treatments, massages, manicures and the like. I didn't get any of these services, but I did use the heated 35 person pool, which feels almost like a hot tub, and the sauna. There is a small exercise room with a treadmill, elliptical machine and some weights. Breakfast is not included. There is a Keg restaurant in the hotel and you can have breakfast there, but it is fairly expensive. The Keg is also a chain restaurant, so I'd rather go somewhere local like Bruno's (all day breakfast) instead. Overall, the Banff Caribou Lodge is a good option in Banff if you want something slightly cheaper than a lot of the other hotels in Banff. One of the perks of the hotel is that there is free underground parking in the hotel's own private parkade. Just make sure you keep your parking validation on the dash when you're parked in the parkade.

Directions: East end of Banff Ave., the main road through town.

OK - but better in town

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 11, 2008

An Ok hotel - they tend to put bussloads of tourists here, so if you want someing quiet it may not be for you. Rooms are comfortable but basic, furniture is a bit old & lived in, but nice reception & restaurants. Keg restaurant there is just a chain and there are far better places to eat in town at cheaper prices. Staff as everywhere in canada are superb and very helpful.

We had an ealr bird upgrade on the booking which gave us nothing special whatsoever, so don't be fooled by thinking your getting something flash.

Big plus is free parking in their car park.

Unique Quality: None whatsoever.

Best Place In Town For Sure!!!

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 10, 2005

Warm and cosy!!!

We really enjoyed staying at the Caribou Lodge. We knew it was the right decision when we saw the place. It looked as good as it does on the website. It was exactly as we were hoping and met every expectation we had.

We hopped off the bus at night and saw a hotel covered in snow with Christmas lights and decorations all over the exterior. It just looked incredible. We headed inside and were welcomed by an Aussie behind the counter. The fire place was roaring. The atmosphere was brilliant.

The staff were helpful in every way. The room was warm and comfortable. The fire place was great to sit at and enjoy a drink. The restaurant, called The Keg, was a great place to eat and drink. They have buses pull up at the front of the hotel to take you to the ski slopes. They have a courtesy bus that will take you down the road to the reataurants, pubs and shops. They have lockers for all your ski gear so you dont need to store it in your room. It was better looking than any other place in Banff that we saw and was cheaper than most places. The cheaper places looked no where near as good. It was value for money.

Are you convinced yet???

Oh Luxury of a feather bed.

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 13, 2005

Spent three nights in this lovely hotel, with those renowned feather duvets and pillows.

The wooden front entrance is wonderful, carved local wood. (Click to enlarge picture for a better view)

There is a Keg Restaurant which has the most delicious buffett breakfast, and wonderfully cooked steaks.

Unique Quality: Renowned for the feather duvets, both on top of the matress for you to sleep on, and also on top of you to keep you cosy. Feather pillows also. Soft, fluffy, and luxurious. Note. - if you have an allergy to feathers, please notifiy the hotel, when they will be pleased to remove them and replace with non allergenic bed linen.

The hotel is on the main street, but at the quieter end of Banff. Our particular room was in a quadrangle, and no noise from the street., not that it is a noisy thoroughfare, far from it. Although you may hear the toot of the Rocky Mountaineer train go by occasionally.

Plenty of restaurants nearby.

Directions: Main street in Banff.

A Hotel in Banff

by written on September 4, 2002

Banff Caribou Lodge was not the nicest hotel I've ever been to. The room smelt of cigarette smoke, the bathroom door wouldn't close, and the curtains were in disarray. Staff weren't too friendly.

Unique Quality: This hotel has 3 hot-tubs, a steam room, and a sauna, as well as a "The Keg" restaurant.
