Don't stay here unless you want to sleep soaked in your own sweat. This hotel is way too hot and they are too cheap to provide A/C even though there are hundreds of on-line reviews on how hot it is. This hotel needs to get a clue. The staff are not knowlegable or friendly and they do the minimum at all times. You really get what you pay for at this hotel. Bottom line, it sucks. It's run down, the rooms are dirty, old and tacky. I hated my stay here and I won't be back.
We have just returned from a 1 week stay at the Ptarmigan Inn banff, the hotel is perfectly placed to take full advantage of this wonderful town, it is approx 150 metres from the start of the shops and bars, Safeway supermarket is even closer. The ski bus stops outside your door and you have views of the mountains from certain rooms in the hotel, we had a small balcony and although cold to sit on, the view made up for it. The hotel is clean and well run and the staff are friendly and helpful, they have a pretty good restaurant which also serves breakfast, this is a buffet style and we ate there only once, not because it was poor, just a matter of preference and we found a fantastic place for breakfast Melissa's.
There is a bar which has a massive log fire and its great to unwind after a hard day on the slope with a beer and that fire, not long before those lids feel pretty heavy.
There is a fitness room, although small.
You can get a combination lock from reception and use a ski locker (free) which is underneath, I would suggest taking a padlock (small) as the combo lock takes forever to open. There is underground carparking if you drive, I dont know if there is a charge.
The Hotel is clean with rooms made up every day, we have just stayed there again ( March 2008) and although the hotel was clean etc, we had a problem due to water leaking from the room above, I had to ask for towels at 3.30am and mop up the water myself, they did offer us another room for the night and I wish now I'd taken it, as when I mentioned to the Canadian girl on reception the next day, she just didnt want to know, a comlementary meal would have sufficed, instead we left angry. But on the whole its good and a great location.
Unique Quality: Perfect location.
Very comfortable hotel in the main street so central to all the shops etc.
Unique Quality: Had a restaurant and bar
Internet Access in reception
Rooms had all facilities
Service was excellent

The Arrow Motel is on the same property as it's sister hotels the Ptarmigan Inn and Driftwood Inn. My husband and I go to the Rockies fairly often and had stayed at the Driftwood before. We were doing a
quick weekend city break, one night in Banff and one night in jasper, so we decided to try the cheaper Arrow Motel.
It was perfectly adequate for our needs. The room was on the small side, with a double bed and a shelving unit with a TV, as well as a coffee machine. I really liked that the bed was the same type they have in the Driftwood and Ptarmigan, something they call a 'mountain luxury bed'. It was nice and soft, just the way I like my beds. Very comfortable for me. The bathroom was alright, your average three piece with toiler, sink and shower only. It was a bit hilarious how low the shower head was, though. I'm only 5'6" and it wasn't even above my head. My husband is almost 6' and he had to duck his head under when he wanted to wash his hair. It didn't bother us, though.
All three of these properties are in a great location on Banff Ave, within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants - no need to take your car. There is free parking at the hotel. I believe you can
also ask for a free ROAM bus pass, however we didn't require one. Guests at the Arrow have access to the Ptarmigan's health and spa facilities, and room service through the onsite restaurant.
Banff is a gorgeous spot that I will always return to over and over again. The true beauty is out in the countryside, in the mountains, water and wildlife, not in the hotel rooms. The Arrow is the cheapest
room I have ever found in Banff and I will stay there from now on. We paid $129 for a Friday night in peak season. We were originally also going to stay on the Thursday night, and it was $109 for that night.
We stayed at the Ptarmigan Inn on an overnight trip to Banff to attend the Mountain Film Festival. The price of the hotel was a deal we had through the Film festival ($89/night).
The Inn has a fantastic location right on Banff Avenue (the main drag) and is within easy walking distance to most of the shops and restaurants in town. The bed was incredibly comfortable; one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. The rooms were very clean and the front desk staff were helpful. The hot tub was nice. I thought the view out the room was a bit different -the Attrium - an enclosed courtyard where everyone can walk by and look into our room, but we solved this by keeping the curtains closed on the windows. Otherwise, it felt a little like being in a fishbowl.
On a couple of minor negative issues, I found the hallways to be a bit noisy and there were other guests noisily partying in a room nearby. A quick call to the front desk to complain (who advised me security was heading up there as we spoke) and the matter was taken care of within five minutes of my phone call.
In addition, we tried to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant, but the wait staff seemed uninterested in looking after us (no menus provided- no service provided) so we left and chose to eat elsewhere.
For the price we paid, the location and the very comfortable bed, we would most likely stay at the Ptarmigan Inn again.
.
Hotel was busy when we arrived and a bit pricey ($194) but I'd imagine much of the town would be so. They upgraded us to a superior room with a balcony which was very nice and spacious, but poorly lit -there really wasn't enough light on a dull day to see what you were doing. However the bed was the best - the most comfy bed I've ever slept in, I felt as if I was totally enclosed in soft down. I didn't want to get out! Shower was excellent. It's part of the same chain as Caribou and Inns of Banff so I imagine they'd be similar. You have to pay for internet use though which I think is a bit tight. We ate at Typhoon in the evening and Melissa's for breakfast. Both highly recommended.
The location is the prime drawing card for this hotel. It is a short walk to Banff''s downtown shopping district and restaurants. The people at the front desk were very friendly and helpful in giving us information for hiking locations. We made use of the hottubs and the sauna. The facilities were more than adequate The bed was extremely comfortable as well, which was a pleasant surprise. I guess the only minor dissapointment was the price of the basic room, The room was fairly bare bones, and I expected the rates to be cheaper based on the fact we visited in the off-season. However, with all things considered were pleased with our stay..
Excellent hotel, staff very friendly and helpfull. Excellent room and bed. Free internet(brill for our 14 year old daughter). Breakfast -very good. we really enjoyed our stay and would definatley stay here again(cannot wait to go back) 100%.
Me and my girlfriend stayed in the ptarmigan for a fortnight last year and we are coming over again to stay in a few days.
We both thought the hotel was one of the best and friendliest we have ever stayed in, the rooms were really spacious and the beds were very comfortable.
we found all the staff we encountered to be very helpful and friendly and would recommend the hotel to any couples planning to stay in banff.
