More about Acclaim Hotel
A very good option for the airport / Northeast area
by TripAdvisor Member sierratango1
I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel for 2 nights while visiting Calgary in May. The hotel is rather new, and some aspects are not operational yet (the restaurant, for example). Visiting their website will clarify that matter. Nevertheless, the hotel in itself is fully functional.
The area around it is still developing. As a traveler, I wouldn't expect to find much in the vicinity. It is somewhat commercial at the moment. However, most people familiar with Calgary will know that this is normal for the area near the airport. Stores aren't too far away. However, without a car, it might be difficult.
Their employees were very nice and accommodating. Professional and pleasant. In particular, there was a gentleman that worked during the later hours that was bombarded with many tasks in a short period of time. He handled it with a smile and remained patient.
The rooms were really nice, and well thought-out. Bear in mind, they aren't very large. However, I doubt that many visitors spend a lot of time in their room for reasons beyond resting. One must put their key card in a reader to enable power for the room (Think green!). The beds were very nice, and the room had rather modern amenities like a flat screen TV and an alarm clock that could dock an iPod. I was taken back by the fact that the bathrooms had LCD TV's and shower panels with multiple jets. Though the jets weren't very strong, it was still impressive. The bathtub was fairly large and deep.
The attention to minor details impressed me, as well. For example, many hotels have irons and ironing boards in rooms for their guests. The Acclaim Hotel actually has an appropriate cup with a proper spout to fill the iron. It may seem silly, but I certainly appreciated it. The hotel also had wireless internet access throughout the hotel. The access was controlled, which is also helpful. Guests are given the appropriate password/access with their key card.
Overall, I think this hotel has a lot of potential. I'll be staying there again in the next couple of months, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone that needs to stay near the airport or Northeast section of Calgary.
Dont beleive the website....false advertising!!!
by TripAdvisor Member Hoseroller
I based my stay on the reviews giving here and of the Acclaims website. They advertised a "modern and fully equipped exercise facility -- which is at your disposal with a variety of the latest machines so you won’t miss your daily routine", and " Star Gazer Sky Lounge where you can soak in our rooftop jetted spas and take in the night sky" and finally "Our on-site restaurant, Pacini Pasta & Grill Ristorante". None of which is even close to being done. They opened the hotel longe before it was finished. They are also in an industrial section very close to the airport, but there is NOTHING close by for resturants or shopping. In 6 to 8 months i think this will be a very cool place, but for now they are not ready.
Fantastic, but still not finished amenities(may/09)

Great place. Fantastic rooms and service. Exremely friendly/helpful staff. Gym/pool not running yet (May/09), but found a gym a couple km away (World HealthClub).
Loved the ipod alarm clock!
Amazing!!!

A lot of thought went into this property. From the art in the hallways to the 300 thread count sheets, everything was well planned and screams luxury. Look at the website as it is a new property and not everything is quite done - they tell you this if you take the time to look (hate complaining reviewers that didn't do their research) and what is done is every bit worth it.
Great staff - love the chaise lounge in the rooms and the rainwater shower head. Only hotel I've ever been in with a bathtub big enough to actually take a bath with the complimentary bath salts. Bottled water and hair dryer in room - business supplies in the desk. Separate make up table with plug in and mirror in the main room - luxurious bath robes, DVD player and free DVD loans from the front desk.
Love the ipod alarm clock - forgot my ipod charger and this was a godsend!
Breakfast is great! Excited to book the Stargazer Romance package when the hot tub on the roof is done!
Can't wait to go back again. Don't know why I'd stay anywhere else.
Pleasant Surprise

I found the hotel through trip advisor. It looked great but the added touches in the room especially the bathroom were impressive. This hotel is a great value considering the cost of hotel rooms in Calgary even without everything being finished. I am sure the rates for this hotel will go up as it becomes more well known and the restaurant and the roof hot tubs are completed. The hotel was very quiet considering how close it is to the airport.
It's a hidden Gem!
by TripAdvisor Member HappyTravleBug
We booked this hotel due to it's No.1 rating and close distance(3 minutes driving) to airport. Stayed here for 3 nights for Stampede events and we were happy with the choice.
First of all, as many other reviewers have pointed out, this is a new hotel, and you can feel it when you first open your room door. Everthing is designed in great detail and ladies would love it more when you see the makeup mirrors and the bathroom design.
The comp. breakfast is good enough for us and it starts very very early and not close until 11am.
This hotel is about 20 minutes driving away from downtown Calgary. As we had a car, so wouldn't mind. However, if you don't drive, this hotel may not be the suitable one for you.
The surrounding area hasn't been developed yet, so that's why I said it's a "hidden Gem".
The front desk staff are very friendly and effiecient at checking in and out.
The hotel has it's own free shuttle bus to airport.
Parking and internet is free as well. There is also two computers in the lobby for you to browse internet and print your air tickets. There are also monitors on the wall showing all the flights arrival and departure times.
So, if you have anything to do with the airport, this hotel is your best buy.
If you need to walk around for coffee shops or bars, it's not.
Pretty darn good....

Got this room through Hotwire. Extremely convenient and close to the airport. Have to say, my stay got off to a bit of a bumpy start at check in. There were two desk clerks. One was helping a customer, another was looking at various things around the front desk. I stood there for about 5 minutes without him even acknowledging that I was there. No eye contact, no i'll be right with you. When he finally finished what he was doing, he asked "do you need some help" I wondered what he thought I was standing there for. But, oh well. The rest of the stay was just fine, though. The room was very nicely appointed and comfortable and when we called for extra pillows and towels, they were brought within 15 minutes. The place is still under construction on the outside and is really in the middle of nowhere. The breakfast was adequate. All in all, a very comfortable and convenient place to stay after arriving very late in Calgary.
I found a flaw! (Plus there's no fridge)
by TripAdvisor Member Filosofo3
I had to try hard, but I found a problem: I asked about the safe in my room, as it seemed to be still locked with the last person's code and they never came back to me.
However, I'll be honest: that's the only gripe I have.
Big, comfy beds with luxury cotton sheets; beautiful shower, gorgeous toiletries.
There is a small tv in the bathroom.
Oh, I lied - there's no fridge either. However, like most hotels in the area, there are free ice machines dotted about all over.
42" flatscreen TV with decent range of satellite channels, including BBC News 24.
Free DVD rental.
Very posh coffee maker in the room, with supplies for Earl grey, hot Chocolate or coffee. Further range, free of charge, in the breakfast room, open 24 hours.
The rest you can read in the other reviews on this site.
It is far from city centre, so you will need a car. However, for an airport stop over it is unbeatable. Free shuttle to airport. Even has screens linked to airport departures and arrivals in the lobby.
Limited free local and US calls from your room!
Breakfast OK but limited.
Great Spot before heading North

This is the number one hotel ranked and I think it will continue to stay on top. They are an excellant and reasonably priced. The amenities are top notch from the shower to the beds to the front desk service. Sylvester at the front desk was a pleasure to deal with and had some great suggestions for lunch and dinner. The breakfast was very good and included with the price and the breakfast bar is open 24 7 for late snackers with cereal and yogurt and PBJ. The only challenge is you need a car to get into town.
Great Place to overnite by airport

Bus service from Montana?
by tvhwy
Hi,
When I look at the route map on Greyhound's official site, I see a route from Great Falls to Calgary. Yet when I try to buy a ticket between the two points, the only trips have me going through Seattle and Vancouver. The man at the Greyhound ticket counter in my city sees the same thing.
Naturally, I think the coast is a bit far out of the way. Does a bus route exist from Montana to Alberta anymore?
Re: Bus service from Montana?

There is no direct service bewteen the two cities. Great Falls to Seattle to Vancouver to Calgary, trip takes 1 day 14 hours. Bus departs Great Falls at around 2pm. You could fly via Seattle, for around $300.00 one way, depending on date of travel on Alaska Arilines, flights take around 5 hours.

Can't you fly from Great Falls to Calgary? That shouldn't cost any more than a bus to Vancouver and then to Calgary, I wouldn't think!
Re: Bus service from Montana?

In response to Camping Girls comment about flying from Great Falls to Calgay, you could if there were flights but since there are none you can't.

Airporter Shuttle Express of Calgary operates a 'charter van' service between many points in Montana, including East Glacier, and Calgary. For details on their and other companies services see:
