I looked to use my accumulated Aeroplan points and the only place I could squeeze myself in that was within the downtown radius was the Best Western Village Park Inn - it promised a distance to the core of just 3 km and it delivered. The hotel is within a very brisk walk to the Banff station on the Light Train system of Calgary with less than 5-minute journey into downtown. I found it, however, using the public bus transportation from the airport, which was fairly easy too as the location is just off 16th Avenue, North West - a major local, greenhouse gas emissions artery. Check-in was no hassle whatsoever: had my reservation pulled out instantly and, at the reminder I had already redeemed Aeroplan points for the room, I needed not to show a credit card. My room was on the fifth floor and as I took the elevator up, I got a nice view of the inside court restaurants on the first floor and swimming pool area on the second floor. I was told the pool closed at 10 p.m. but I gather that’s more so that there’s peace and quiet in the place rather than it could actually close in effect. Regardless, I didn’t make it back in time that evening for the swimming pool, but it was something I was happy to have available. As to the room, it had two queen-size beds and the one I slept in felt great. The view out the balcony/ window was mostly of the Crowchild Trl (highway) and noisy for that reason, but there were no chairs or other predisposing to enjoy the balcony conditions – had to go back into the room and when I did that and closed the door, couldn’t be bothered by the noise outside or lack of view thereof. The place, in general, has all the basic amenities one would want to use while away from home but wouldn’t be able to carry – i.e. the iron board and iron, the hair-dryer, microwave oven, coffee-maker and of course, that tiny empty fridge. I used 17,000 Aeroplan points for one night. Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averagePhone: (403) 289-0241
