Good for a budget!

Rooms were wonderfully clean. The front lounge has tons of magazines, and a map displaying the myriad of places visitors have come from. There's a communal kitchen with free coffee from 6-9am. You can buy internet time. Bathrooms were also wonderfully clean. Tons of maps displaying places to go, tours to embark on, interesting things in Calgary. This hostel is eco-friendly, as it's apart of Hostelling International.

Unique Quality: Well, I got my bed for $33 a night. That's pretty outstanding.
It's also right by the C-train.

Nice friendly hostel

the HI hostel down 7th Ave was v friendly, with informative people at the desk to give you tips on your stay in Calgary and the Rockies. Rooms were a good size with a variety of people in. Bathrooms a good quality, good kitchen!

Hostelling

This hostel was nice. Good accomodations/amenities - Big Screen TV, pool table, a couple arcade games, internet, reading room, full kitchen, etc. Parking available in front. No curfew.

Unique Quality: Unique? How about a shower in which you have to push a button for it to work and it only gives you 9 seconds, yes I counted. Then you have to push it again...and again....and again. It's a pain in the ass. However, there is a shower in the reading room that is 'normal'. Despite this hassle I would still stay there again.

If you are just travelling through...

HI-Calgary City Centre is located at 520 7th Ave SE, Calgary (this SE, NE thing still confuses me). It's very close to downtown, next to the train stop at 7th Ave and 4th St. From here I walked to Calgary Tower, Eau Claire Market, Chinatown, and other downtown attractions. Also street parking is relatively easy (photo shows my rental car parked in front of hostel). So, if you are a backpacker, or just driving through town to visit the Rockies, HI-Calgary can be for you.

Outside there were some homeless people around the building. I've seen it in many downtown hostels; perhaps the free spirit atmosphere of hostels attracts them. But HI-Calgary is the first one I found to have its own security guards. If that doesn't bother you, inside the hostel it's clean and cozy. It has a large kitchen, dining room, living room, and internet. I paid $22 (Canadian dollar) for a Saturday night dorm. For more info or reservation, visit the website below

Many Thanks

Hey,

You'll definitely want to stay at the HI-Hostel. Since it's a worldwide chain, it's safe, plus it's very central so you can do everything there is to do and see everything there is to see!

Living in Calgary and working at the airport, almost every young person that gets off a flight and is staying at a hostel, stays at the HI hostel!
