Westjet - Calgary to Ottawa in February
by europebn
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a one-way flight from Calgary to Ottawa at the end of Feb next year. I've been on WestJet and they have a seat sale for $229 before tax ($290 including). How does that price sound? Air Canada is much more expensive and I'm not sure if there are other options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Grab it...290 tax in is pretty reasonable...nowadays..

You've got yourself a very good price. Only issue with WestJet is that their flights are not always direct and you may have stop overs / transfers. Air Canada does have direct flights.

Thanks Greggor and Manfred for your comments - that's good to know!
Yeah I've noticed many have connections, but fortunately there are a couple per day (well, one that is at a decent hour) that are direct.

WestJet's awesome! I would take them + a layover in Toronto over Air Canada any day. But with no layover? Do it!

WestJet awesome? Sorry, they are just another airline and I find that "folksy" stuff rather annoying. They are just another a low cost carrier. When I book Westjet - price is my only consideration.
That being said, I wish that they looked at some of the better Asian low cost carriers, rather than the American ones.
Travel Tips for Calgary
Calgary Stampede Chuck Wagon Races
by RACCOON1
Our last day in Alberta (Calgary ) in 2003 was the first day of the Calgary Stampede.
Someone just had to see the chuck wagon races . Although the Stampede Schedules did not say there were chuck wagon races on day one , we did go to the Stampede and found out that there were races.. We were able to get seats , cheap ones but a bit high up in the stands. It is probably better to get more expensive seats closer to the track to better hear the rumble of the wagons and horses at the start .
There are ten races ( four wagons per race ) each night followed by a stage show. We skipped the stage show . Thet start of the races are exciting but once the teams get established on the track it is just a horse race . No one comes from behind in these races .

Go West...young man...in the words of 'The Cult', whilst in Calgary, a definite must to head out to the Rockies at some point...why? Absolutely spectacular, as well as the likes of the tourist towns of Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise...you can't beat the feeling of being out in the wilderness, and the Rockies definitely allow you to feel that!!! Snowboarding!! what more do I need to say...hit the mountains for some of the best snow and biggest ski mountains in the world, although this season, apparently, was not a very good one...I still had a blast!
Where to find info on Calgary's events, shows, etc
by Seradoms
We have a local newpaper, that is free and widely distributed through the city. They are found in silver news stands everywhere, and the publication is called FastForward (FFWD). They have great entertainment news and articles, plus a very comprehensive listing of all events, festvals, shows, galleries, etc etc going on in Calgary, and they usually list all of the contact info for them too!
FOR TRAVEL TO CALGARY WINTERTIME
by mamasan69
Sturdy, dependable bags/luggage, that if they get really cold will withstand it. Warm clothing and shoes. Bring a sweater, extra socks and winter boots might not be a bad idea, depending on what you are planning to do(how much you are going to be outside). Any items you require can be purchased locally. Video or digital camera that can deal with cold weather. This depends on the activity that you are doing. For example, if you are skiing most people already know how to prepare for this and what to bring with them.
I don't think the beach is an option during the winter months as it will be a big block of ice. Again the weather is very unpredictable, and you never know when it is going to snow or be bitterly cold. When I left for Thailand this year at the end of January, it was -43 degrees. We had the cold spell for about two weeks before we left, but up until then it was a fairly mild winter. The average temperature was around -15 to -20 degrees, during the months of November and December.
Talisman Centre
by penumbra
With two Olympic size pools, a dive tank, indoor track and gym, the Talisman Centre has become the second most widely visited multi-sport facility in North America. Run by a the non-profit organization, the facility offers world class athletic development as well as circuit training, weight room, drop-in classes or personal training. I always enjoyed playing volleyball at the centre… there was no way the ball could hit the ceiling.
