Herbert Lake where exactly is it located

by 9tigers

I will be staying on villiage rd, then first day I will drive to lake Louise Rd to the lake where fairmount hotel was, last time I was there the lake was still frozen so I wanted to go back, but where is Herbert Lake located? can I get there to take some pic in the morning as I am heading to Jasper?

Hi, I'm a little confused by your posting. Are you planning on going from Calgary to Jasper in one day and also hoping to stop off at Lake Louise and other places on the way. If so this will be an extremely long day and you will miss the chance to enjoy lots of good things along the way. I'm no expert, but his appears to be too much for one day. If you can clarify exactly what you have in mind then I'm sure that you will get some helpful replies.
Lake Louise was still frozen when we went there. It was still beautiful, but I'm sure that it will be even better when it is thawed out!!

No, Lake Louise is definitely thawed, and was completely thawed when we were there two weeks ago (mid-June 2010), with several canoes out on the lake even though it happened to be chilly and rainy at that time.

Herbert Lake is 3.3 km (2 miles) north of Lake Louise along the Icefield Parkway (highway 93).

Travel Tips for Calgary

Summers in Calgary

by Unknownsu

Calgary is known for mild summers. Not too hot, and not too dry. Temperatures usually hover around 25-35C. Bring the apporpriate clothing and prepare for some sun bathing! During the summer months, you will see people all over the streets getting involved with as many outdoor activities as possible.

Calgarians solidly behind the Flames Hockey Team

by dabidc

The Stanley Cup is the holy grail for Hockey fans and this year the Calgary Flames out played 3 major teams in the play offs for the Stanley Cup. They almost made it against the Tampa Bay Lighning, losing in the final seventh game.

During the playoffs and to show support for the team many Calgarians placed flags on their cars and at times it was like watching a sea (C) of moving, fluttering flags as cars drove along the streets. At first it was one car in 10, at the end it was more like one car in 3. In the case here there were two flags on the car and the owner also wore a Flames sweater.

We congratulate a team that played so well and did the City proud.

Our weather couldn't be weirder!

by Maurgan

Be prepared for EVERYTHING!
In the middle of winter it may be as cold as -40C or as warm as +10C. For summer, as hot as +35C or it may very well hit 0C. Although you can assume winter will be cold and summer will be hot, extreme deviations are not uncommon. (Think snow in Summer.) However they will not last too long.

If traveling in winter, alongside apporpriate winter wear, do have a t-shirt or two, incase a chinook hits.
In summer, make sure you have a warm sweater, just in case. With the exception of prepackaged ethnic foods, I can't think of too many things you couldn't find in Calgary, should you forget a neccessity or two.

Equipment Rental/Sports Trips/Climbing Wall

by madamx

If you need an equipment rental for your sport, the Outdoor Centre Equipment Rental in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary offers the most cheapest rates. For example, if you want to try hiking, they rent out hiking boots and backpacks. Also, they offer outings as well, so if you've never gone hiking, or canoeing, or kayaking, you can learn how, or if you know how, and don't have anyone to go with, you can go with a group. I've found the leaders knowledgeable and friendly. For a complete list of the equipment they carry, go the website below.

If you're into rock climbing, or want to try it, they also have an indoor climbing wall.
