Inexpensive lodgings
by Lady_Disdain
Hi!
I am going to take a week long class in the Alberta College of Art and Design, in late june. It is located at 14 st NW and 14 av NW.
Can anyone recomend an inexpensive hostel or hotel nearby (or acessible walking or by bus)?
Thanks!

If I remember correctly, there is a Comfort Inn very close. SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) is at 16th and 14th and it is next to that. The Train goes through the College so you could stay further away if saving money is really a priority

There are a lot more options by the U of C, about 10 blocks, and you can take the train also

There is an area called Motel Village located at the Banff Trail C-Train station. This is two stops away from SAIT; you could walk it in about twenty minutes or take the train in four minutes.

Travel Tips for Calgary
The Flames
by Unknownsu
The Calgary Flames is the hockey team that took the NHL by storm. Considered underdogs, they made it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals and ultimately lost to the Tampa Bay Lightnings. Flames, we will always support you! The Red Mile on 17 Ave!
Chinatown
by mht_in_la
Similar to other Chinatowns across north America, Calgary's Chinatown is centrally located in downtown, mostly Cantonese speaking, with lines of restaurants to choose from. Enter one of the small indoor malls to see the more intimate shops that cater to Chinese instead of Westerners. Visit Chinatown Sunday morning to enjoy a Hong Kong style brunch (half western half eastern) while most other restaurants are closed.
Calgary Stampede (Rodeo)
by mishadawn
Famously known as the World's Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth is the Calgary Stampede. It is essentially a rodeo, fair and theatrical perfomances.
It takes place the first two weeks of July. The whole city pretty much shuts down to begin the celebrations with the Stampede Parade. Next are the numerous free Stampede Breakfasts hosted by various businesses ( pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausages) usually with entertainment of western singers/dancers.
Packing List
by Craig1968
Always bring a small bag that you can put some extra clothes in. Days can be warm and the nights can get cold. This is especially good to have when the sun is going down. Due to the location - the mountains are not far away so this can cause quick changes in the temperature. Always, Always bring a nice warm sweater to wear as you never know when the weather will change in the city. Even in the beat of summer the city can get chilly. Always keep your passport and drivers licence with you. Never leave it in your hotel or other place where you are staying.
Take me out to the ball game
by penumbra
Calgary hasn’t been good to its baseball teams. We’re working on our third team, since the stadium was built. Currently up to bat, it’s the Calgary Vipers professional baseball team, a member of the AA Northern League. The league is made up of eight teams in the northern US and Western Canada. If you’re in town on a sunny day between the end of May and the beginning of September, you might want to consider heading to the park for a beer and watch the game.
