Canmore to Banff Transport

by HazeinOz

My Husband and I are staying Falcolncrest in Canmore in June. Could you please advise if and what transportation is available to us for getting in between there and Banf (without having to hire a car) Are there organised tours to different regions, like Lake Louise/Edmonton/Jasper etc or is it easier to go back into Calgary to get to some of these places.
Sorry, but its the first time we have travelled to Canada from Oz.
Any tips greatly appreciated.

Unless your hotel is offering a shuttle, there is really no transportation to/from Banff.

Grayline offers tours of the area, and I believe they go from the bus terminal in Banff. Have a look at all the great Banff pages around here for more ideas and tips.

Have a great time!

It's only a 10 minute drive from Canmore to Banff town, you could probably take a taxi into Banff and hook up with a tour there (and yes, there are tours from Banff).

Travel Tips for Canmore

An interesting hoodoo type hill.

by dabidc

The valley is one where there are paths along the valley floor and as you walk you can see these hoodoo like hills that have been eroded by wind and rain and frost conditions.

As you visit Canmore and also Banff there are other places where these eroded stacks of softer rock can be seen.

The main photo was taken several years ago and shows the cave without any tracks in front of the centre of the cave. In the intervening years, about 6, the re has been more erosion, either from rain or people climbing to the cave.

There are several places where flash floods have done damage to the area. One is in front of the Cave or grotto at the Hoodoo. A wide swath of the level meadow has been badly eroded by flash floods. Damage is also evident at the canyon entrance /exit, way back near Baymag Mines building, the rocks are thrown all over the place and the path into the canyon is not as easy as it was.

"A tale of 2 trips"

Trip 1(Nov 29th 2006-March 4th 2007)I got to Canmore 15 days after leaving Vancouver.to be honest i did not know what to expect. What i got was a very big culture shock!
My first few weeks in Canmore i detested.i cannot explain why,i think it was due to the climate and the fact it was full of men(Canmore isnt called Manmore for nothing),living with my housemate Rahul did not help much.Suddenly something happened that i never expected.I met someone.A beautiful Brunnette named Tamara. We started dating and to be honest it was going very well. Then one day as i was on my way to tell her i loved her.She split up with me.Despite writing a love letter and asking her to meet up with me,i was at a loss to expalin why she had done this to me!Devastated,Heartbroken and looking back a complete mess,i made the choice based on my emotional state I left Canmore.

Trip 2-(May 20th 2007-June 25th 2007).I returned to Canmore after raeching the conclusion that i had left the town for the wrong reasons. While the ghosts of Tamara still exsisted i felt that i could arrive back in Canmore with a new job.Sadly the 2 places who said i could have a job when i e mailed them, didnt when i got there.Homeless and Jobless,I luckily found a job at the Canmore Mountain Lodge.I continued my role as Night Auditor there for a few weeks, before i made a big descion.if i wanted to live in Canada permantly i needed to go back to school and while the option was there to work until 2008.I packed my bags and left.i never wanted to leave, the town had come alive,it was pleasent, people cared.Ironically just before i left town i went to a bbq, there at that bbq i saw Tamara for the first time in 6 months. Her response...blank...
