I've only flown in, so do not know where the bus terminal is.

If you are only there for a weekend, the Mall will take one day, and walking around downtown could easily take the other day. There's some nice architecture as well as some neat neighborhoods like Chinatown.

If you had more time, there is the Reynolds museum about 30min south of the airport (1hr from downtown). There's some good theaters, as well as parks like the Elk Island, and Fort Edmonton near the river close to downtown.

Greyhound terminal used to be right downtown. It's been about 10 years since I was there burt I assume it's in the same place.
The conservatory can be a real treat this time of year. Especially the tropical pavillion.

Art & Subtle Political Commentary ...

by kymbanm

I've already shared what I thought of the artistic fencing I spied at a little park in Downtown Edmonton ... apparently I am in the minority in liking it though :)

If you surf the VT Miscellaneous Forum, you are already familiar with the witty, dry and understated humor of 2 Edmontonians we know as David Keeling and Darby2 ..... after seeing this little bit of polictical commentary hanging on the fence, I realized this trait i probably shared by at least a few other folks from their home town :)

I'll be honest, it took me a minute or two to get it ....... air freshener on art? Why? ..... OOOOHHHH! Does somthing smell here?

Edmonton Oil Kings hockey

by Karlie85

The Edmonton Oil Kings are a Western Hockey League team that started in Edmonton for the 2007-08 season.

The Western Hockey League is the top junior league in Western Canada and is a part of the Canadian Hockey League.

This is the second best hockey you'll get in Edmonton, next to the NHL squad, the Edmonton Oilers. But for the price, The Oil Kings are of much better value. Both teams play at the NHL arena Rexall Place, and an Oilers seat that will cost you $200, will cost you about $25 for an Oil Kings game. Although it isn't top tier hockey, it is fast-paced and high energy because the players are trying to get drafted into the NHL and impress the scouts who are always paying attention.

The Oil Kings sell themselves as being family-oriented hockey (probably because most people can afford to bring family to a game) so it is a different atmosphere than an Oilers game (where there is more drinking and rowdier fans).

If you are looking to catch a quality hockey game and either can't get Oilers tickets or just want to spend less, the Oil Kings are a great option. Tickets range from $17-$35, plus service charge.

Although this Oil Kings team has only been around since '07, previous Oil Kings franchises existed from 1950-1979.

Alberta Railway Museum, near Namao

by Darby2

The Alberta Railway Museum located on the northern outskirts of Edmonton is a great hit with railroading buffs. It has a large collection of operating steam locomotives including CN 6060, the largest operating steam locomotive in Canada. I've ridden on this loco and it's a blast! Harry Home is the engineer who takes care of this baby for the last 25 or more years.

Other motive power includes 1392 shown here, with the old Gibbons water tower.

More like Rude Star

by Karlie85 about Red Star Pub

Red Star Pub is a fairly new, trendy pub in downtown Edmonton on Jasper Avenue.
It is on the small side, and quite dark. There are booths along the walls, and tables in the middle. No dance floor that I saw.
I have been here twice. The first time was nothing special. I thought the music was far too loud to be having a conversation with anyone. I walked away apathetic.
The second time I went here started out fine, but quickly went downhill. The waitress essentially wouldn't let us pay her and wouldn't let us pay in a different way when we politely asked her. Then she went and complained to the other waitress, right in front of us. She then proceeded to stop serving us completely and drink the drinks we ordered. We also saw them talking about us, again right in front of us. When the second waitress came over to our table, she got into an argument with us, and proceeded to tell us "I don't care if you don't come here anymore. We don't need your business.", and when I asked her about the customer always being right, she laughed in my face.
Also, the drinks were not very good.
Considering that this bar is still fairly young, small and not well-known, they should not be telling people they don't need their business. They seem very pretentious, and I will never go back here again.
And yes, I tried calling to complain multiple times, but nobody ever picked up the phone, and there's no answering machine. Jeans and t-shirts are fine, but the people seemed to be trendy and pretentious.
