Discover Nature at John Janzen Nature Centre
by keida84
For $1.75 Canadian, a tour of the John Janzen Nature Centre is a nice place to take the family, especially if you have young children.
Down in the River Valley Park System, the Centre offers exhibits such as the Life of a Honey Bee and programs such as Backyard Composting.
Season permitting, you can hike the self-guiding nature trails: The Birch Tree Trail and the River Loop Trail or watch the ducks and birds at the Prairie Pond.
Located near Fort Edmonton Park, Fox Drive and Whitemud Drive.
Cheap CDs & DVDs
by VTShounen about a&b Sound
Home entertainment systems, car audio systems, etc on the lower level, CDs, videos, DVDs books on upper level. Edmonton is a great place to load up on (real, non-pirated) CDs and DVDs. Not to play favourites, but I love a&b Sound. That and later Future Shop (both Vancouver based retail chains) are known for their low price CDs and DVDs, especially when they have a sale on. Although you can find these stores throughout Western Canada, in Alberta there is NO PROVINCIAL SALES TAX! Rarely have I gone to a&b sound and paid more than $15 for a CD that I want.
West Edmonton Mall
by VTShounen about West Edmonton Mall
It's where you'll likely be spending most of your time in Edmonton anyway! Lots of choices, all indoors, away from the weather. Popular entertainment choices include cinemas (especially Silver City in Phase IV), Playdium, Red's (large entertainment centre for families during the day, at night catering to the younger crowd, with bowling, pool, arcade, dance floor, occasional live band, restaurant, bar), and the various night clubs (Rum Jungle - though everyone I know HATE the DJ there, The Joint, Juice, Nashville). There is also a casino, a dinner theatre (Jubilations) and many restaurants that are open after all the stores are closed. Depends on where you go, but nothing in particular worth noting.
