Edmonton for one full day/night

by italmelb

Hello All

I will be Edmonton for one full day in December so i was wondering if you could tell me what sort of things i can do to fill up my time while i am there!

I love taking photos so i'll definitely be doing that a lot
is there any particular attraction apart from the mall that i should be visiting?
where is the best place to take photos of the city? what about any nice restaurants? good breakfast places? bakeries?

Any advice is welcome!

There is nothing to do in Edmonton. The best place to take photos of Edmonton is from space.

Actually, there are a lot of nice things to do in Edmonton.

Don't even bother going to the mall unless you really feel like you want to go shopping. There's nothing interesting at the mall.

You can go to the Legislature grounds to take photos, quite nice. We have an extensive river valley that is very pretty. There is a botanical garden in 4 pyramids called the Muttart Conservatory that is interesting to look at and that you could get some cool photos of. Edmonton is a young city, but Whyte Avenue is the "historic" part of the city (also tons of restaurants and nightlife), so you could get a few pictures there. Can't think of anything else right at this moment. Super tired and still have jet lag!

My absolute favorite place for breakfast is Hap's Hungry House (16060 Stony Plain Road). Not sure what part of town you're staying in, but go there if you have a chance. I know tons of good restaurants as well.

Send me an e-mail if you have any more questions and I'd be happy to help! :)

Travel Tips for Edmonton

Keepin it REAL

by VTShounen

Admittedly, Edmonton is not a destination city. People who come here are here to visit someone they know, or are passing through, or are using it as a gateway point to other parts of the province.

Those who do linger usually find Edmonton to be quite.. bleah.

Don't blame them, I agree.

But bleah is not necessarily bad. The trick is simply NOT to force yourself to expect thrills and excitement from a place that doesn't offer that. What it does offer takes time to discover. The most charming thing about Edmonton has nothing to do with the parks and the green space, the biggest mall in the world, or the cheap cost of living. It is that people here are real - they aren't self delusional, pompous, pretentious, etc like some other cities (Calgary comes to mind.. oy)

To anthropomorph my point, think of Edmonton as someone who may not be flashy or talkative, but who actually has character, as opposed to someone who seems lively at first but whose shallowness gets annoying really fast.

My experience is, people who come here wanting to hate Edmonton, leaves here hating it more. People who come with an open mind and who stay a while, leaves here making loads of friends and loving it.

If you're the latter, then welcome to Edmonton. Every time I take off from the airport!! lol Hey, remember, I live here so it's not necessarily a bad thing..

Best Mall

by Karlie85 about Kingsway Garden Mall

In my opinion, Kingsway is the best mall in the city. It is not too big and not too small, and you can find anything you are looking for. There is a nice selection of stores without there being too much. Kingsway is located just a couple of minutes from downtown and has a main transit centre, so it is very easy to get to. The only things it doesn't have are a movie theatre and a grocery store. There are a variety of clothing stores, jewellery stores, gift shops, 3 department stores, a food court, electronics stores and more!
