Moving from Calgary to Edmonton (rivalry aside!)

by AMatthews86

OK, just confirmed that i am moving back to E-Town from Calgary (i was born and raised in Edmonton, moved here to Calgary 2 yrs ago) I'm just asking about what the best method of travel would be to get there, bus vs. plane, their both reasonably priced, as i dont have a vehicle as i did when i moved here to Calgary, if anyone could help out with some websites, numbers, etc, that would be awesome, thanks! All i know of is WestJet, Air Canada and Greyhound....

Plane would be the best if you can do it. It's a 1/2 hour flight. Westjet is probably your best bet, and for booking, just go to their website.

Come back and visit sometime!

Do you have stuff? If so don't fly. Don't you have friends that can give you a lift? It's not that big a trek. Buy them gas and a steak at the Keg

Depending on how much stuff you have, you might want to fly in this weather.

Red Arrow (bus) is much more comfortable than Greyhound, and may not take that much more time (3 hours total "door to door" i.e. downtown to downtown) than having to go to the airport, wait for your flight, board, fly, land in Edmonton, grab your luggage, find a taxi, and drive into Edmonton from the International Airport.

Visit the Muttart Conservatory! Its quite beautiful. There are four botanical garden pyramids located in the river valley. The glass pyramids are a landmark they feature three different climatic regions - arid, temperate and tropical climates. The fourth pyramid showcases a variety of flowers and is changed roughly each month. I went sightseeing downtown for the day. The subway is free for downtown commuting and relatively clean. The Edmonton City Hall is a must if your downtown, as well as the Provincial Legislature.

Edmonton, being very much a winter city, is a hockey town. The Oilers numerous Stanley Cup wins are still at the forefont of Edmonton's urban psyche. Wayne Gretzky Drive (formerly the Capilano Freeway) shoots past the Northlands Colliseum.

FIFA is coming to Canada!!
From June 30-July 22, 2007, Canada will be host to 24 teams of young men from around the world. Some of these games will be held in Edmonton!
The dates for the Edmonton games are July 2,5,8,11,14 (quarter-final game), and 18 (semi-final game).
The tickets are incredibly cheap, ranging from $10.75-$32, depending on where you are sitting and which game it is. There are also ticket packages ranging from $100-$300.

Some people may think it will be boring, but keep in mind Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) and Wayne Rooney (England) were only 21 and 20 during the 2006 World Cup!

Tickets are available at

The other Canadian cities that are playing host are Burnaby, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Victoria.

You know I'll be there!!
I hope to see you there too!

If you get a chance, you may want to visit Elk Island National Park. Just a 45 mins drive East of Edmonton (take Yellowhead Trail Eastbound; Highway 16, and follow the signs), it is home to herds of free roaming plains bison, wood bison, moose, deer, and elk. I remember a time when I was there and I stepped into a BIG PILE of bison poop. Sooooo, watch where you're stepping.

The Roost Niteclub, Buddy's Niteclub, Woody's Niteclub, The Precinct, Boots & Saddles, Fly Bar, Secrets, Gay Denny's.
These are all gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered nightclubs. All very fun (if you're into that). A lot of straight women attend these clubs as well as a safe haven from creepy guys trying to hit on you. For younger cute boys (18-25) watch out for the old men, some of them are creeps. The precinct is primarily for lesbians. Boots & Saddles is primarily for the older crowd. The Gay Denny's is where everyone goes after the bar. Typically Buddy's and Woody's is popular on Friday nights and the Roost on Saturday and Sunday nights. Most are casual dress except for Woody's and Fly bar which is business dress.
