Rexall Place

by luvcruz

Hi
I will be going to a concert at Rexall Place in october.I have to catch a flight out very early the next morning.I need a hotel that is not too far from Rexall place and close to the airport(yeg).I looked at a few on trip advisor but they all got terrible reviews.Any info would be helpfull.Thanks.

I would suggest staying on the south side either the Coast Terrace inn or Delta South. Ther are other smaller ones in that area too.

It isn't that difficult or time-consuming to get around Edmonton, and as long as you are not trying to get to the airport during rush hour, almost anywhere that you stay in the downtown area, or even in the Old Strathcone area, should be fine.
The advantage of staying downtown is that you can catch the LRT (Light Rapid Transit, which is sort of like a subway system) directly to Rexall.
The hotels in the downtown area are mostly quite nice; try Union Bank Inn, MacDonald Hotel (a Fairmont), the Westin, Crown Plaza Chateau Lacombe - check this out using Google.
In Old Strathcona, try either Metterra (which got reviewed in this past weekend's Globe & Mail) or the Varscona. It will take you a bit longer to travel from there to your concert (meaning you'll have to take a bus to the main University bus stop, and transfer to the LRT which will take you to Rexall).
Whether you are downtown or in Old Strathcona, you can catch the Airporter to the Edmonton International Airport. It costs $13 Cdn (or it did last autumn), and takes about 30 to 35 minutes from downtown. Just ask at the front desk of your hotel, and they will give you the details.

Enjoy!!!

i have no idea what this hotel is like (i've eaten there but never seen a room) but if i was just looking for a place to sleep, i'd consider the coliseum inn (www.coliseuminn.com). it is directly across the street from rexall place. in early morning, it would be about a 25 minute taxi ride to the airport.

Travelling to Edmonton end of August - help w/ hotel

by smiley2004

Hello,

I will be flying from Toronto to Edmonton end of August. I am trying to find a hotel which is close to the airport, and the VIARAIL station in Edmonton.

I will be catching the Viarail the next morning, so I'd prefer to have a hotel close to the station, then the hotel.

Any suggestions??

The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald.
The airport is 26 miles south of town.

The Edmonton International Airport is not 26 miles - but 26 km (~ 16 miles) - south of the city CENTER (and, as the sign at the exit of the airport informs you, it is 9 km south of the city limits). Since the way from the airport is on a major divided highway, unless there is major construction or an accident, it will take you approximately 30 to 35 minutes to drive right to the heart of Edmonton (& we routinely do it in less time than that).

As for hotel next to the VIA rail station - well, as far as I know, the station was moved a few years ago to the industrial part of the city (in the northwest), and I'm not sure that there are any hotels in the vicinity. Your best bet is to stay downtown, for example - at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald, or Union Bank Inn, or the Westin (there are a number of other hotels in the city centre, so you have a choice). From there you could take a cab to the station; shouldn't take you more than 20 to 30 minutes - depending on the time (& whether it's rush hour or not).

my advise would be to take a shuttle from the airport and stay close to the train station which is located at 12360 121 street. check out these hotels/motels
chateau louis hotel - 800-661-9843, chateaulouis.com
edmonton inn - 11830 kingsway, 454-9521
ramada hotel - 11834 kingsway, 454-5454
these are all a short taxi ride away and have some shopping facilities around them.

None of the three hotels that ltt mentioned above are very nice hotels; I would avoid them and stay downtown instead.
