I enquired from Lister Center if I would be allowed to stay at U of A's International House (which I found via its web) and voila: I'm now booked into fully furnished a bachelor suite at IH for the month of June and a fully furnished one bedroom suite at U of A's the Hub Mall & Residence from July till I leave! And the charge for the latter would even be pro-rated for me, depending on which day in Sept I will actually leave! :-)
Not cheap but certainly the former would be half the price I would have to pay at Campus Tower Suite Hotel and the latter would still be only 2/3rds the price for Campus Tower for a monthly stay!
Unique Quality: Offers year round hotel-style accommodation with complementary local calls, high speed internet, parking and breakfast! The HUB Mall and International House fully furnished suites with kitchen facilities and weekly housekeeping for monthly rentals. And during the spring/summer breaks single rooms with private bathroom in Schaffer Hall with access to communal lounges, kitchen and laundry facilities - a much better alternative to HI Edmonton at a similar price!
Directions: 116th Street and 87th Ave
You can get a room with attached bathroom at Lister Center of U of Alberta, through its Guest Services, offering a clean, basic room with attached bathroom and communal living room and kitchen at a rate of only CAD69 a night plus tax (CAD59 minus tax a night for a 30 day stay) during the spring/summer months!
Forget about HI! Go for Lister Center! I've seen both!!
Unique Quality: Very clean rooms, with cleaning services once in 5days, which is OK for me, after all my own apartment in KL gets cleaned once a week! ;-)
The University of Alberta offers guest accommodations in some of the student residences. The location is great, and so is the price. Rooms are comfortable and guests have access to various services for free. I stayed at Lister Hall and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the campus!
Unique Quality: On each floor there is a lounge area and that's a great place to meet other travelers.
Directions: University of Alberta, downtown Edmonton
Being a university dorm, this place takes a little getting used to. Facilities were very clean, area is safe (if a bit dead at night) but relatively close to the action on Whyte Ave.
Unique Quality: The staff are nice, the facilities (shower, kitchen) are very clean, with some rooms having some pretty nice views. All for $40 for two twin beds, not bad!
