Calgary - Travelodge Hotel Airport: ... outdated

by vtveen

After a long flight from the Netherlands we didn't like to phone the hotel for the three shuttle bus and decided to go by a regular taxi. Just for a couple of km's we had to pay CAD 25,-

The hotel looked (a little bit) outdated, didn't smell too fresh and the rooms were rather small.
Located outside the city you 'only' can walk around and also in the hotel is not much to do. You may understand we were not very satisfied.

Breakfast (buffet) was good, but rather expensive.
We took the free shuttle bus back to the airport to pick up our rental car.
Be aware, they do have just one shuttle bus and it may take soem time before you can leave to the airport.

Edmonton - Catchick’s Bed & Breakfast: ... what a small world

by vtveen

With a map of Edmonton on my lap and turning left and right many times we reached Catchick’s Bed & Breakfast. After unpacking we made a chat with our host Tony Catchick and it turned out he had worked in a milk factory in our hometown Apeldoorn in the Netherlands.

If you don’t like a cooked breakfast better tell it Tony the night before, otherwise you will get your baked potatoes and eggs and … on your plate the next morning. We just could save a pot of tea.
We didn’t have to worry about our payment, because our host charged automatically our credit card.

The main reason to choose for Catchick’s was its location very close to the West Edmonton Mall. And indeed it was just 1 minute drive.

(Fairmont) Chateau Lake Louise: Lovely hotel in scenic location

by bkathryn

We were here for a brief stay when some friends invited us to their wedding, which was held here. The hotel facilities were excellent.

Though we did not have a room with a lake view, we did have a view of the nearby mountains.

Shundra Creek Hostel: Canada's Recreational Paradise

by Davelyn

One of the best Hostels for wilderness stays in western Canada. Has everything from male/female dorms to private family rooms. Kitchen facilities and livingroom. We have stayed there numerous times with and without our children. Open year round. Facilities for cross country skiing and ice climbing in the winter and a hiking a fisherman's paradise from April til November. Abraham Lake is located west of Nordegg and offers spectacular fishing for Rainbow Trout and Steelheads 6-12 lbs.

Serentiy and peace of mind. All electric and water facilities available for cooking and washing.

Shadow Lake Lodge: Backcountry Bliss

by RoadBum

What a dream this place is. A day's hike from the main highway through Banff National Park brings you to the lodge. Each party is assigned their own cabin. Breakfast and dinner are provided. You can pack a sack lunch for your day's excursion. Cabins were very comfortable. Ours has a splendid king size bed! Outstanding food. We are vegetarians and each day the cook would prepare a special dinner for us far better than I can usually find in my hometown. Great hiking opportunities. Hot showers available in an adjacent building.

Ptarmigan inn: Stay in Banff

by kokoryko

Simple, clean, good food, quiet place.
Good for relax after a day of hike in the surroundings.

Multilingual staff, which is not bad for French or other European.

WESTIN HOTEL: I will come back for the Stampede

by kokoryko

quite luxurious, good service, a bit noisy, but it was the last days of the stampede, and lots of cow boys (and girls) were having fun and beer in the lounge bar
expensive (on company expenses!)

CHATEAU LAKE LOUISE: ROCKY MOUNTAIN GLORY

by mtncorg

It's a great hotel, but when I am out in the mountains, I am not so lucky as to stay at a huge hotel like this. I am much more at home with the campstove a blazing and the water boiling. The only problem with campsites in and around Lake louise is the crowds and the trains.

This is one of the gems of Canada of which the Empress in Victoria and the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec are on the short list. It belongs to the Fairmont Hotel chain.

The Chateau at Lake Louise: Luxury and Scenic Beauty

by wondering2

Awesome beauty on the edge of Lake Louise. Tour buses actually drive people up to take a picture of the place.

In the frigid months (January esp.) you can get a price break in this pricey hotel. Worth every freezing degree. It's a specatular place to stay. Some rooms are a little small. Try to get a corner and get lake view.

Q: Columbia Icefields from Banff or Jasper "I apologize if this question has been asked before - didn't see it in my searches. Is it better to go to the Columbia Icefields..."

A: "It doesn't really matter. I've only done it driving up from Banff towards Jasper, but that really really was just the way we happened to travel. It's roughly half way..."
