More about Becker's Roaring River Chalets
Nice location but up-date needed.....
by TripAdvisor Member jsks
Just returned from a trip to the Rockies spending 2 nights at Becker´s. We stayed in a two bedroom riverside chalet and, whilst the location cannot be faulted, the cabin we stayed in was in need of an up-date. The furniture was very worn and the carpet a little worse for wear. The view and peacefulness were the highlights so would probably go there again but maybe ask for something a little newer and less "rustic".
Deluxe cabin-style unit

Best value in Banff, Lake Louse or Jasper. Four peaceful nights & comfortable firm bed (4-8 Sept) 4 km south of Jasper in a suite (bedroom, livingroom-utility kitchen) where space for suitcases and hanging clothes was limited. Bow River short walk but no view from unit. Mount Edith Cavel and Jasper Tram to Whistler Mountaintop are real treasures.
Bigger is not better

We stayed at Becker's previously and looked forward to returning. Since they have added additional "chalets" they lack the warmth and coziness of the original cabins. The new chalets are bland and sparse with gas fireplaces. Also with the expansion the animals no longer linger around the cabins. The food was also disappointing with a limited wine list. We won't be returning.
White water location

We have recently stayed at Becker's Chalets in Jasper (end Aug.04) Based on advice we received from Trip Advisor, we stayed in a riverside chalet which was a beautiful location overlooking the white waters of the Athabasca river. Our chalet , surrounded by pines, was very comfortable with a very basic shower room and useful kitchenette. On the downside, the place was very booked up and we could only stay for one night. The service at breakfast was poor but the take-out menu was ok.
We went on a brilliant white water rafting trip on the Athabasca with Malinge rafting adventures (based in downtown Jasper). The wildlife in and around Jasper made our trip magical.
Amazing views and home from home accommodation

We spent just 2 nights here in September 2004 and were just bowled over. We booked a one bedroom chalet beside the river. It came complete with lounge/kitchenette and all the china/cutlery required for 3 people. We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay just because we enjoyed it so much on the first night. It's not cheap but the food was good and we had a table right by the window with stunning mountain views. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer.
Becker's Chalets in Jasper gets absolutely top marks

On a two week tour of Western Canada - our very first visit there - Becker's Chalets, a few minutes outside the town of Jasper, gets top marks on every count. Our chalet was spotlessly clean, well presented, very comfortable and spacious and in a great setting. The grounds were also very well kept and yet retained a great "natural" feel - not over-manicured - and always within sight or sound of the river. The staff were friendly and helpfull and the on-site restaurant was excellent. Although not the cheapest place to stay, it is by no means over-priced for the area and we felt the slightly higher price was worth it for the high standard and the beautiful surroundings. We, as a couple, stayed in one of the upper chalet apartments which consist of a comfortable double bedroom, full bathroom with shower, a great living space with full kitchen facilities and a balcony. We would definitely recommend a stay here, particularly at the time we were there (our visit was in early September this year (2004)) although it obviously will be a bit less peaceful in the high season.
Great View

Stayed at this hotel for three nights in early July. The location is excellent, right on the Athabsca River. They have lawn chairs and picnic tables to use. The rooms are nice, but a little small. A good value overall.
Great experience at Becker's Chalets!

We spent one night at Becker's Roaring River Chalets in August 2004 while driving through the Banff and Jasper National Parks. The staff was very helpful and the location couldn't have been better (just a short drive from the town). The chalets were nicely equipped, had comfortable beds and were very clean and ours had a very pretty view of the pine forest to the rear of the property. The breakfast was very good and the river gives a great backdrop for some family photos. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone traveling through the area.
Yes, skip the restaurant

I felt the chef last year was much better - I ate there on 2 nights in the last 10 days (ok, so I'm a sucker) and found the food to be nearly flavorless. I was surprised as we genuinely enjoyed it last year. The cabins are OK, a little pricey in my opinion, and there was a little too much noise. It was also a little warm for me without air conditioning, even in May.
If you DO eat in the restaurant, try the pork or halibut, much better than the other entrees we tried, and the brie was the best appetizer.
Nice Facility, but!

A very nice facility but short on the value side. No hot water for showers on our first morning. Spoke to the front desk and received assurances that the problem would be corrected. The next morning we again had no hot water. While checking out and expressing our displeasure over the fact that the water issue had obviously been ignored we were told that there was no problem. Fortunately a couple behind us announced that they also had no hot water. An apology from the front desk personnel would have been appropriate but was not forthcoming.
