Sweet 'rustic' hostel

Some of the staff were friendly, others not too much. The shuttle doesn't run often in the winter which isn't that great but it runs more often in the summer. I would only recommend this hostel to someone who really likes a 'rustic' feel when they are travelling. The internet service is poor since it's so far out. The private rooms are decent. The kitchen was decent and had a good system to have your food in separte cupboards which was good. Very close to the tram. Great is if you have your own transportation

Unique Quality: Great view from the common area.

Not all its cracked up to be

The budget options in Jasper are very limited. Unless you are with a group and split the cost of a more expensive hotel, traveling solo or as small groups, the hostel may be the only economic way to go.

Personally, I was not impressed with the hostel. It was originally the ski lodge way back in the day for the old defunct ski hill. It is 7km out of town and unless you have your own transportation, it only offers two shuttles per day. You'd better bring your own food and entertainment.

The bunk rooms are very cramped. There is a female room with ~30 beds and a co-ed room with ~46 beds. Unless you are a deep sleeper, the sound of snoring, ruffling sheets, etc. can be quite loud. Its best to bring your own earplugs.

Also, the lights come on at 8am whether you want them too or not. If you plan to get a little rest after that time (or if you happen to be unlucky to have a bunk next to the door), you may need to bring your eye shades too.

The bathroom floors were continuously wet due to poorly draining showers. Bring your own towel and toiletries.

The best thing about the place is the common room where they have some large tables for socializing, reading or playing some board games. The communal kitchens were adequate enough for a hostel.

Unique Quality: There is a bus to/from the train station that coincides with the VIA Rail schedule.
There is a twice per day shuttle to town.
