Hoiusekeeping bad and details forgotten
Just spent 3 nights at the Sawridge and was pretty disappointed with the hotel, moreover the service AT the hotel. To be fair, let me say a few positive things about our stay:
-Motel is convenient to town and rooms have refrigerators in them, which is a much appreciated touch.
-Commons area and lobby are attractive, if a bit dated, but are generally clean and comfortable.
-Pool is nice-size, with nice hot tub and sauna.
-Jasper itself is unbelievably beautiful with lots to do in area.
The negatives are plentiful when it comes to this hotel, but many problems surround the housekeeping staff.
-1 day our room wasn't even cleaned, and the staff simply said they "forgot".
-The next day our room was cleaned by simply making the beds and leaving. No dirty towels removed, no trash cans emptied, no new towels provided and no restocking of amenities.
-The 3rd and final day of our stay, we put the PRIVACY sign on our door, which was ignored on TWO separate occassions by housekeeping staff. They entered room without knocking either time, and once our daughter was changing clothes when a man in his 20's entered the room.
-At 5:58 a.m. we were awakened by the beeping of a semi truck backing into the parking lot to deliver restaurant goods. The hotel has 3 restaurants, BUT NO LOADING DOCK!!! All the deliveries come right through the hotel, with the front door being directly below our room. NOISE< NOISE< NOISE!!
-Air conditioning barely works at all. We slept with no covers on, the balcony door open and the airconditioner as high as it would go for three, restless, annoying nights!!
If you go to Jasper, STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!! A couple in-town recommendations. First, Karouzo's restaurant downtown is one of the friendliest places I've ever been in my entire life!! Food is great, but the staff and owner make it magical. The owner greeted us at the door on my daughter's 14th birthday, gave both my daughters a free Shirley Temple, then gave us a free Oreo Cheesecake and my youngest daughter a free Greek chocolate bar so she wouldn't feel left out. Prices are fair and the food and service are truly impeccable.
Second recommendation is the Bear's Paw Bakery downtown. Wonderful morning pastries and espresso bar with a bit of a hippie-chic feel. While my whole family is conservative Republicans, the Bear's Paw simply has this cool retro-vibe about it and the food and drinks are delicious and reasonably priced.
This hotel has a log cabin-like feel when you enter the lobby. It is on the edge of town but as another reviewer stated, the town isn't that big. Also, we got a shuttle ride to the Jasper Brew Pub to watch Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. The only complaint we had was, in the mornings, we could hear everyone in the hallways. The staff was friendly and the help yourself coffee stand was convenient.
A pleasant place to stay
We stayed at the Sawridge as part of a 2 centre holiday (1st week in Banff). The hotel is spacious and has a good atmosphere. Our (balcony) room was spacious and comfortable. The facilities at the hotel are good and although it is some distance from the town there are several good restaurants a few minutes walk away if you don't want to eat in the hotel.
Breakfast buffet is quite expensive and if you want toast you have to ask for it from your server.
The staff are polite and efficient but not as friendly as the staff in Banff were.
A shuttle is available into town at request but we were informed that it is not available to return to the hotel.
Overall, it's agood place to stay.
Slow front desk
The front desk was very slow and we waited for about an hour to get in. Constant mistakes of the booking system, a lot of outages of the internet and very expensive breakfast/dinner make this wonderful looking hotel bad. The people/staff were very good and I am sorry for them because they have to waste a lot of time deal with the terrible management system.
A Bit Dirty
We only stayed at the Sawridge for one night during a 2 week tour.
Our first impression was of disinterested attutide of the staff. There was no attempt by the concierge to assist until we were well inside the hotel and by that time we declined. The halls and stairs did not look like they had seen a vacuum cleaner in years and the restaurant area carpet was simply filthy.
The room itself was generally ok although the amount of dirt that had accumulated behind the door (which was clearly visible when closed) was a disgrace. It was fairly obvious that someone had been smoking in the room proir to our visit and we mentioned this to the disinterested service desk as there was a considerable fine if there was evidence of someone having smoked in the room.
We did not use the restaurant for our evening meal but breakfast buffet was quite pleasant with plenty of choice.
Ok Hotel for one night
I stayed there one night with my wife and our teenagers, this OK is OK for one night, the rooms are not big but clean. If you are lucky enough to get one with a view on the outside of the hotel - NOT THE INSIDE POOL-
Dinner and Breakfast was just OK
Clean & Comfortable...Family Friendly
Spent 2 days here in early August 2006. We didn't expect much, but were pleasantly surprised. The hotel smelled incredibly clean when we first walked in. (No musty-carpet smell or cigarette stench anywhere!!) Ultra comfortable beds and pillows! The room even felt clean enough to walk on the carpets in our bare feet! Our room had an exterior balcony with a view of Mt. Edith. Was surprisingly quiet for peak-season.
The only negative was incredibly slow (and Rude!!) service by a single employee in the restaurant on our first - and Only!- meal there. Food tasted fine, though. Huge portions. You definitely need that in-room fridge for all the leftovers! (Thank goodness the fridge comes standard with the room.)
Accidentally left our young son's special pillow in the room at check-out... After a quick phone call, they packaged and shipped it to us in the USA.
Overall, would gladly stay here again on our next trip to Jasper. Highly recommend the exterior (balcony) rooms. Definitely enjoyed our stay!
We have visited Sawridge Inn for two-day getaway "spa package".
Our goal was just to relax and enjoy Jasper. Check-in was done quickly. Room was very clean. Even though the hotel is an older property, it is well maintained and staff is very helpful and attentive.
We have used "Walter's Dining room" for all our meals. The service from our server on the first night was absolutely excellent. I am a very discriminative tipper, but the guy deserved $20.00 tip! Other meals were also good and service more than adequate.
We had included massages in our package and my wife had a facial. We would rate the Spa 4 out of 5.
If you are looking for quick getaway while you choose Jasper, you can not go wrong with the Sawridge Inn !!!
We stayed here from December 29 - Jan 2 and enjoyed ourselves! We were worried about what type of room we would have since we brought our dog but were pleasantly surprised, very comfortable and clean room. Great food, nice pool and hot tub and great spa!I have stayed in quite a few hotels in Jasper and this is top of my list! Service was very friendly and accommodating.
