Pretty Poor - avoid!

This "resort" is 50km the other side of jasper towards Calgary. Basically it's portakabins split into four rooms in each, and with a bit of fancy wood tagged on the outside. We got there after a long drive at 21:30 and checked in. All the bumf says the place being world class this, and world class that but it's just a 2* gig at 4* prices. Rooms look very lived in, and they are noisey as your adjacent to other people as the portakabins are split into four.

The main thing to beware is in the evenings thjey just offer "wolrd class" dining which is in fact a fancy a la carte menu cheapest meal without wine but with starters would knock you back $75 / head. After a long day travelling all we wanted was a great cheap burger but this is not an option, and also not ideal for kids in that respect.

If you want basic at expensive prices then it's fine, but there are much better places in Jasper itself. Lastly, nearest other place is around 50 km away, so you can't just pop somewhere else to eat.

Unique Quality: None whatsoever

Bed and Breakfasts in Jasper and Banff/Lake Louise areas

by BrenInVA

We are contemplating a trip to the Canadian Rockies in early September. Since we prefer B&B's or cottages, any recommendations would be great. We prefer B&B's in scenic, less crowded areas.

Has anyone stayed in either the Mountain Splendor Bed and Breakfast or the Wyndswept Bed & Breakfast? Both are in the Folding Mountain Village in East Jasper.

Also, since we will be flying into Calgary, we will probably need to find an accommodation near Banff or Lake Louise, and spend a few days in that area before driving north to Jasper. Any recommendations?

Are there any nice B&B's or Inn's or lodges between the Banff/Lake Louise area and Jasper?

Thanks.

Eleanor's House B&B in Banff is a very nice clean and comfortable place to stay. It has three or four uniquely decorated rooms each with its own private bathroom. Downstairs is a lounge with a fireplace and some comfy chairs (good for reading or just sipping sherry, which was provided as part of the package the time that we stayed there!!). Breakfast was tasty. However, it's right in town so this might not be what you want, although the location is on a quiet street and surrounded by trees.

There is nothing much of note -in terms of accommodation - on the Icefield Parkway. Your best bet is to stay for a few days in Banff or Lake Louise, then spend a whole leisurely day travelling and exploring the attractions along the Icefield Parkway (about 230 km from Lake Louise to Jasper) before stopping for the night in Jasper.

You might, however, try the Num-Ti-Jah Lodge near Bow Lake (not too far north of Lake Louise, less than 40 km). We have never stayed there, but it looks like an interesting place. I'm not sure when - or if - it closes for the season in the fall. They do have a website (just do a Google search).

Happy trails!!

I recently stayed in the Sunwapta Falls Resort just south of Jasper. They have some really nice lodges that are simple but comfortable. There is not much at the resort but the falls are a short walk up the road and they are pretty spectacular.
