Roadtrip to the coulees
Bored one night (about 2:30 a.m.), my significant other and I decided to go for a drive. Cranking my Suzuki Samurai up to its top speed of 120 km/h, we shot south down Highway 2. The sun was just colouring the eastern horizon a faint purple as we crawled through Fort MacLeod and out onto Highway 3. Just before five, we pulled into my g/f's alma mater, the concrete monolith that is the University of Lethbridge. Fog was rising off the Oldman River. Sunrise backlit the spindly mechano that is the Canadian Pacific Railway's High Level bridge... the world's longest steel trestle.
Did I ever need a coffee! At 6 a.m., like a soapbox racer, I put the Samurai in neutral and coasted the steep grade down Whoop-up Drive into the coulees and then crawled up the other side into downtown to search for an open diner.
