Few amenities for a rather pricey stay

We spent one night at Crandell Mountain Lodge which is in Waterton Lake Village. Check in was fine and there was no delay. There were fresh cookies on the counter at the check-in desk. No breakfast is offered on site here other than the coffee in the room. There is no pool or other recreation facilities. We had to climb up a flight of narrow creaky stairs to get to our room, which was quite dated. The light switch was the old timey push button switch - how long has it been since I've encountered that? The room itself was crowded and the bathroom was very small, but everything was clean. There was very little space for our things. The weather was quite cool during our visit but we still opened the windows for a little fresh air. We had a room that faced the street and had no problems with noise or disturbing sounds. There were very few television channels.
The exterior has a Euro look, but the inside is definitely in need of updating. In order to stay here we had to pay to get into the National Park for the night. I don't believe I would stay here again.

Unique Quality: The Crandell Mountain Lodge is located right in the resort area and you don't need your car to see the town. We saw mule deer everywhere we went while we were walking around. They were nibbling the grass in the yards - many of the homes had their outside flowers in cages to protect them from being eaten. It's very easy to drive or walk to Waterton Lakes and enjoy the view and catch a boat ride.

Great Cookies!

This is one of only three hotels that are open year-round at Waterton. We stayed here during the winter of 2005. Winter is a great time to visit Waterton with your sweetheart!

The hotel offers a "Romance in the Rockies" package, which we took advantage of. For $360 (taxes extra) we received 2 nights at the hotel. Our room had a comfortable queen size bed with beautiful cozy quilts and lots of pillows. The room also offered a full bathroom, a small fridge, coffee maker, fireplace, and television. Included in the package was a dozen roses, a bottle of champagne, and vouchers for one dinner and one breakfast at the Kilmorey Lodge, across the street. Our hosts were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable.

I would highly recommend this hotel at any time of year! The romantic package is a really great value and gives you an opportunity to see Waterton during the off season. We had a great weekend.

Unique Quality: During the summer, the lodge puts out freshly baked cookies for guests to enjoy. This is a really nice personal touch.

I have found the owners, Darcy and Jocelyne, to be extremely helpful with any questions we had while staying there.

Update 2009: This place is now under new management and some of its quaint charm left with the former ones!
