Charming Old Inn with Character

I like the Kilmorey Lodge, but then again I like old buildings - I think they have more character. Sure, the floors creak, but that's part of her charm! The Kilmorey is one of the original buildings in Waterton, and is situated on the shores of Emerald Bay. What a great view!

The rooms are tastefully decorated with lots of antiques and they have down comforters on every bed. There are no televisions or phones in the rooms, all the better to shower your sweetie with attention!

UPDATE JANUARY 20, 2009:

The historic Kilmorey Lodge burned to the ground today, the cause of the fire is not yet known. The owners have vowed to rebuild the Kilmorey in the style of the original building. They are also planning to have another restaurant opened for this winter, at the Waterton Lakes Lodge, which they also own. Plans are to have the restaurant opened by this Friday, January 23rd. This news makes me really sad.... :(

Unique Quality: They have a first rate dining room, a great wine list, a small lounge and an outdoor patio overlooking the lake (open in the summer only!). Reservations are recommended during the summer.

More about Kilmorey Lodge

Kilmorey Lodge

by JudyinPA

Kilmorey Lodge was our choice for the two nights we spent in Waterton. We neglected to take a picture of the lodge which sits on the lake. Very old and rustic with huge down quilts on the beds which we needed in August.

Kilmorey Lodge and restaurant

by JudyinPA

Kilmorey Lodge has the best restaurant in the village. They are open in the winter for cross-country skiers. They have meals that appeal to the gourmet eaters in the group and also even more traditional meals. They provide a great wine list. Prime Rib and roasted lamb

Winter Activities

by Camping_Girl

Winter is another great time to explore Waterton - you can have the whole place almost to yourself! The Kilmorey Lodge, Crandell Mountain Lodge & Waterton Glacier Suites are open year-round, with the Kilmorey Lodge offering the only restaurant service in the winter. No other businesses are open in the winter.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular winter activities in the park. Routes from the Little Prairie picnic area, which has washrooms and a kitchen shelter with a wood-burning stove, are great for families and novice skiers. The rolling terrain is not difficult and is very scenic, particularly when you arrive at Cameron Lake. The area is accessed from the Akamina Parkway.

More experienced skiers can make extended backcountry trips around Cameron Lake, but beware: this is avalanche country; come prepared.

You can also go ice climbing in Waterton. There are a variety of climbing opportunities here.
