For anyone planning a vacation to Waterton Lakes National Park in 2009, be advised that the historic Kilmorey Lodge burned to the ground today, January 20, 2009. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The owners plan to rebuild the building, a replica of the original, but it is unknown at this time how long that will take.

This poses a problem for winter travellers in particular, as the Lamp Post Dining Room at the Kilmorey is the only restaurant open in Waterton during the winter months. But, the owners of the Kilmorey also own the Waterton Lakes Lodge, and the plan is to have a full-time winter restaurant opened there by the end of this week.
