Fort St. John....Peace River Country
"Thanksgiving weekend 2005"
I had a nice visit on Thanksgiving weekend with my brother Tom and his wife Rosemary. They showed me their new church in Hudson's Hope, about 80 km from Ft. St. John. I also visited my nephews and nieces. Jeremy, my niece's husband, is a rancher and wrangler in the Hudson's Hope area, along Butler Ridge. He and his partner manage more than 4700 cattle and horses on a gorgeous spread covering more than 12,000 acres. We took a ride in his Jeep across the many fields, including one where his crop of oats reached the astonishing height of about 7 feet tall!!!!. I can vouch for this claim... I have a picture of my little nephew Sammy holding a sheaf of the record oat crop. Jeremy had to set the swather to it's maximum height, more than 2 feet, otherwise the oats were choking his baler and swather.
He managed to bale more than 20,000 bales of prime hay and greenfeed and wore out one baler in the process.
