2 hours east of Vancouver...

"Gateway to the old Transcanada Highway!"
One of my favorite roads is the original Transcanada (#1) highway the runs north from Hope to Cache Creek and then east to Kamloops. You *can* take the shorter and faster (by about an hour) Coquihalla route from Hope to Kamloops. This is a toll road and is great if time is limited. But if you have a whole day to spend getting from Vancouver to Kamloops, I would definitely recommend this road (or the Duffy Lake Road from Whistler to Cache Creek) as a much more scenic and relaxing option to the Coquihalla.

"A little bit of Hope"
Nestled away at the foot of the Coast Mountains, where the Fraser Valley becomes the Fraser Canyon, where the Coquihalla empties into the Fraser, lies Hope, Chainsaw Carving Capital of the World. With four major highways and two rail lines, Hope is the gateway between Vancouver and the rest of British Columbia. Up high on a mountain trail, bathing in a nearby lake, or fishing a local river, you know you're in Rainbow Country.
Alexandra Bridge

"& Alexandra Provincial Park"
A provincial historic site, the Alexandra Bridge was originally built in 1863, as part of the Cariboo Wagon Road, the first road of any major proportion in British Columbia. It lies 40 km North of Hope and 2km north of Spazzum. It was the next stop on our tour after Hope.
