When's a good time to visit Okanagan?

by Mr.Parsnip

Hello,
we are planning a few days trip to Okanagan region after we move to Vancouver. We are interested in touring the vineyards and fruit ochards. Is May too early for orchards? We will likely want to stay in Peachland or Summerland. Any B&B to recommend?

Yes May is too early for orchards. Great for wine tours. Can't help with B&B's but, I like this place http://www.summerlandresorthotel.com/

thanks! Is Summerland large enough for dinners? Or just eat at the many wineries?
Is Sept. a good time to visit? Or too late for any fruit harvesting?

Early September will still have fruit in the stands but, not sure of the orchards.
Summerland is close to Penticton and Westbank to add dining options. other than Sumac Ridge having a restaurant, not sure of other Vinyards.

Hi,
We're from Victoria. Last year we visited the Okanagan in late August and stayed at a B&B in Summerland that we thought was just EXCELLENT. It was called Stix n' Stones. I just googled it real quickly, and it comes up at http://www.bbcanada.com/10775.html
BUT, when we were there, they owner said she was selling, so I don't know if it's still operating or not... or maybe just different owners.

Anyways, if it's still there, the room is large, the bed is super comfortable, there's a fireplace iirc, it's private, and there's a great hot tub. very romantic. Breakfasts were one of a kind.

We were biking the Kettle valley railway, but we also had our car. We did some wine tasting in Naramta, highly recommended - beautiful area. There are a couple restaurants in Summerland (or maybe just one, don't know), but there are many more along the 'beach strip in Penticton, which is about 10 minutes drive away. Naramata is right in the same area as well.

We also visited the town of Oliver, south, which was very nice and I recommend driving there and walking or biking along the trail that goes alongside the river. If you have time, also visit the desert further south into Oosoyos.

Hope this helps.

Travel Tips for Kelowna

RCMP Musical Ride

by Ken_Weaver

I was fortunate to be in Kelowna when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride team came to town. While I did not get to see the show at Prospera Place, I did get to see the 4 impressive horse trailers arrive with the RCMP riders in uniform as they brought the horses out of the trailers and into the pavilion. The women watching seemed more interested in admiring the riders instead of the horses!

Plenty of PUBLIC ART WORK AROUND KELOWNA

by balhannah

Driving around Kelowna, we noticed a lot of good sculptures scattered around the City.

What I did not know at the time, is that there is a public art guide on all the different pieces.

We saw the "Spirit of Sail" done by Robert Dow Reid (1978) on our waterfront walk.
It is made out of fiberglass and has become a symbol for the city.
'Spirit of Sail' (also known locally as 'The Sails') is 12 metres high, quite impressive with the lake as a backdrop.

The other one I really liked is called "Rhapsody", also done by Robert Reid, but in 1993.
This one is located in Waterfront Park Plaza, Nth end of Water St.

Another one made out of fiberglass, depicting dolphins playing in a large fountain.
