Which Beach?
by SkiBunni
Well there are a few choices.
My favorite is Gyro Beach off of Lakeshore/Pandosy. However, the only thing that makes it my favorite is the sand and the bod watch aspects. Keep heading towards all the wineries in KLO. Any local can give directions. Sand beach and large shallow and swim area. Mostly a place where the locals go as well as the beach bums and bunnies who wish to show off their bodies. There are play areas for chidren as well. But not close to anything, so if you want something to eat, either bring it yourself or be prepared to pay lots. But still the best sand. Volleyball nets available and grassy areas.
City Beach is smack downtown and where most of the tourists go because there is so much to do there. Sand beach again but not as nice as Gyro sand. Volleyball, track, skateboard park, kids area. There is something here for everyone.
Tons of beach access along Abbott Street.
Do not swim in Duck Lake. It's called Duck Lake for a reason and what do ducks leave behind. Too shallow for anything to cycle out well.
Wood Lake is good if you want to drive all the way to Oyama which most of us don't but it sure doesn't get the crowds that Gyro and City Beaches do.
There are a couple other places on the Westside of the lake but it is so not worth crossing the bridge in the summer that I've never bothered to go.
OGOPOGO LEGEND
by balhannah
Whilst enjoying our lakefront walk, we came across what looked to be a Sea Serpent, which got us wondering what it was all about?
Well, the name of it was "OGOPOGO" meaning [longfish]
"His mother was an insect, his father was a whale, a little bit of head and hardly any tail, and Ogopogo was his name."
Like the Loch Ness Monster, people here believe they have seen a serpent-like creature roaming in Lake Okanagan's waters. This has been happening since 1926, and the creature still has not been found.
And.........An insurance company offered a large sum of money for its solid proof!
Perhaps a way to make some {easy!!!} money!
Ideas of what it could be include long eels, seals, trapped whales or debris from underwater.
The website has more information on Ogopogo
A Japanese garden in downtown Kelowna.
by dabidc
"The Japanese say it with Trees."
The North Americans and Europeans say it with flowers and flowering shrubs.
Almost hidden behind City Hall in Downtown Kelowna is a compact but very clourful area devoted to A Japanese Garden, where the impact is from fine delicate trees in many colours.
The garden is a welcome place of peace and quiet on a hot day, there is some shade and there is no charge.
"Beauty and Colour."
There were about 15 people in the garden when we were there, it was a challenge to take photos without the people.
"More colour as you wander around."
"A different scene each turn of the path"
"An odd arrangement of petals."
"The pond complete with Koi ."
Bridge over the Koi.
"A miniature world."
"A final view of the Kasugai gardens."
Cith Hall is on Water Street between Doyle and Queensway Streets.
The Japanese gardens are behind City Hall.
