What else would explain how some trees were destroyed and others seemed to escape the conflagration.
I know there were water bombers in use and that may explain how some trees were missed by the fast moving flames.

"Gem of the Okanagan"
Kelowna sits on the east side of Lake Okanagan, a 60 mile long stretch of pristine water located in the central part of British Columbia. The city of 100,000 is surrounded by orchards and vineyards yet was selected by the Canadian Heritage Cultural Spaces program as having a cultural center that ranks "Best in Canada." The six block district is a concentration of galleries, museums, theaters, and artist studios.
There are 12 wineries within the city and about 65 total in the Okanagan Valley. Kelowna celebrates the harvest each year with a Spring and a Fall Festival!
The city celebrated its Centennial this year on 05-05-05. This last weekend we were fortunate to attend a street that carries on the celebration.
