Nanaimo is a small city in Vancouver Island. Its a very pleasant and cozy habor city. No wonder Diana Krall (jaz singer - one of my favorites) lives here. It would be nice to listen to her in this city.
If you can afford, its nice to live up there.
"Long short-disatnce call"
I got a chair and ready to call my friends. I had my lunch already.

"Coal Mining History"
The city of Nanaimo has a long history of coal mining, and many older homes were built over top of many mine shafts.
There have been a few stories of holes suddenly opening revealing entrances to hell. One story involved someone heading down into their basement, and thus discovering a large...dark...hole in one section of their basement floor.
They could not see the bottom, but could hear debris drop when kicked into the hole. Spooky I'd say, I'd also hazzard a guess that they don't live at that address any longer. Along the waterfront in this city you can find the rail yards, that have existed as long as the mines, and are easily accessible, if you enjoy trains.
Nanaimo is also the birthplace of Jazz artist Dianna Krall, who has gone on to impress the world with her brilliant style, and who along with her musical husband, Elvis Costello (birth name: Declan McManus) have a home up island, we'll keep the location secret for their benefit. We all know what those two look like don't we? Another famous islander is Pamela Anderson, who has bounced into the record books to become one of the top pin-up poster girls, but she is not from Nanaimo but a smaller town a little further north of there.
So, if you're on the island, who knows, you may just spot one or two of the famous.
Because of its location to some lumber mills, such as Harmac. On the days when the wind has changed, its then that you can smell this mill. Sort of a sour, foul odor. People there have a saying when this happens: "Is that you Mack, or Harmac ?" But over the last few decades, Nanaimo has really upgraded itself, and many improvments can be experienced, the world famous Nanaimo Bathtub Races, have happened here for decades, and it wasn't until some rowdies in Vancouver (the finish line) caused the authorities to change the route of the race. Instead of travelling from Nanaimo to Vancouver in homemade bathtub raceboats, it is exclusively just in the Nanaimo area. So, in some ways, people of Nanaimo win because they get to witness the race in its complete form.
Its also the home to the world famous Nanaimo bar. A tasty desert, for all you with the sweet tooth.
