We camped here for a couple nights. It was GREAT. It is close to Nelson and has a nice beach.
We have never been here before but thought we would try it out. We will be back for longer next time. There is the beach, ferry ride, fishing, hiking, boating, gold panning,hot springs all with in the vacinity. Nice and relaxed time.....

Toad Rock Motorcycle Campground Rally

Toad Rock is about a 25 minute drive north of Nelson, midway between Balfour and Ainsworth Hot Springs. This is a motorcycle campground set on 34 acres of forested land. They have flush toilets, free showers and a laundry room available. There is even a covered social room, complete with a bar and pool table!

They have a motorcycle rally here every year around July 1st. We went in 2007 & there were about 2500 people & 1500 bikes there. The burn-out pits around the campfire were quite busy and the bands were awesome.

They have a great deal for $100 which includes your weekend's camping, a t-shirt & collector pin, plus meal tickets, good for 5 meals during the weekend. We were impressed with the caliber of food that was served as well. My only complaint - the beer gardens ran out of booze Sunday night!

We had so much fun, I can't wait for next year!

"Walking Town"

This was a favorite stop during our vacation. The downtown district has numerous historical buildings and it is a great little place to explore on foot. Many good restaurants and pubs to relax in when the walking is done. Check out the historic Hume Hotel if you want fine dining.

Nelson, BC

"The heart of the Kootenays..."

Well known by snowboarders, hikers and hippies, Nelson is a treat to visit. An easy-going mountain town on a picturesque site at the downstream end of Kootenay Lake, people have been falling in love with Nelson since it was founded in the 19th Century. Nelson is easily one of the highlights of British Columbia. Its relative isolation has, ironically perhaps, given Nelson a more cosmopolitan feel than its neighbours.
